Question about Lite On LVW-5116GHC DVD Recorder
My Lite-On DVD Recorder is not recording on or reading DVD +RWs. It will say "invalid disk". I have recorded on these DVDs on the Lite-On machine previous, and it still re-formats the disk and then says Invalid disk. The disks are Sony DVD+RW. I try to "restore" from setup menu and turn the machine off and on, and unplug and replug machine. It used to work sometimes, and now it doesn't ever. Also, many times regular DVD movies won't play. My warranty is up in May, and I need to know what to try in a hurry.

SOURCE: lite on LVW 5005 NOT WORKING
This is a common problem with the Lite-on LVW range of DVD recorders
due to changes in the construction of more recent DVD R media. It can
be solved with a relatively simple firmware upgrade.

You'll need to have a blank CD and a CD/DVD writer in the PC you use to download the file.
Follow the instructions on the website to upgrade your firmware, this should then allow you to write to DVD's once again.

I had a problem with a Lite-On that had been working fine then stopped reading any disc--sometimes it would go through the motions of recording if a disc was in and a timed recording was due to start. After recording it would not read the disc. I tried a DVD/CD lens cleaner but it didn't appear to even spin up. A google search led me to find the a dirty laser would cause this. I removed the cover and with a clean lint free cloth I used rubbing alcohol to clean it and it has worked fine since. While I had the cover off I took the unit to my garage and used an air compressor to blow all the dust out of the unit and cleaned the laser again just in case. That was about 6 weeks ago and it works fine. My unit has a cooling fan that I think contributed to the dust problem.
