My Hayward pump was very noisy but now trips the breaker. I can turn the impeller from the rear pretty easily.

Hayward is synonymous with junk. Let me guess. It's been in service for about two or so years when the noise started. Eventually the motor will burn out. I've gone through two motors and a diffuser on my Hayward pump. It's already making noise again.

My pool motor tripped my breaker. When I reset the breaker and it tripped again sparks came out of the motor. Can someone tell me what the problem is more likely to be? I don't know the make of the motor...

The title description is a Hayward Super II 1.5 HP but the part number you gave is for a StaRite MaxiGlas pump. Either way the motor needs to be replaced.
The best way to find out what you need is to look at the part number on your impeller. With that information whoever you buy the motor from will be able to get you the correct pump and seals..

The pump was left off for a couple of weeks. When I try to turn it back on, the circuit breaker trips. I banged the pump housing with a rubber mallet bu it still trips the breaker. Thank you

You may have a blown motor start capacitor, or the motor shaft has seized up. Try to see if you can reach the impeller through the hole in the back of the pump pot and spin it with your finger. If you can't then it has seized and you will need to take it apart to see if something is jamming the impeller or the bearings are locked up. Make sure you have the power off before you try to spin the impeller with your finger or you could end up missing a finger if it should start running.

There was a freeze recently that busted my pipes. i fixed the pvc and tried to turn the pump on and nothing happens, silence.... The breakers are on amd the polaris booster pump works... however the 1.5 hp...

1. Is there a switch on the bottom of the pump?
2. Hearing nothing indicates no electricity to the pump.
3. Is there some other location where power could be off or tripped off?

My Hayward pool pump was humming, but I got it running. Now it is not pulling water into the filter. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

WELCOME TO THE DREADED NORTHSTAR..THEY FAILED TO PUT A LOCKING SCREW ON THE IMPELLERS ON THESE WITH A MOTOR THAT CAN RUN IN REVERSE ON A WHIM . I SEE A NEW PUMP IN YOUR FUTURE ,, A STA-RITE DURA GLASS !....; WHEN GETTING A NEW PUMP TELL THE THE HP AND SF SERVICE FACTOR OF THE HAYWARD YOU HAVE SO YOU GET THE RIGHT SIZE PUMP FOR YOUR NEEDS ..GOOD LUCK AND VOTE FOR ME...JAY

My Hayward just hums when I turn it on and after a few seconds the breaker pops.

You will need to disassemble the pump and check the impeller. remove any debris and try turning the impeller by hand. If it does not move or is dragging, you will need to overhaul the pump. Possibly a shaft seal leak has damaged the motor bearing(s). Replace the shaft seal and motor bearings. If the motor is badly deteriorated, you might need to replace the motor. Note... the impeller turns counterclockwise to loosen. you may need special tools to grip and hold the motor shaft and the impeller to prevent damage to the impeller. If the impeller is seized on the shaft from rust, you may have to break it to get it off. reassemble with teflon lubricant on the shaft threads when reinstalling the impeller. This will prevent seizure later.

How to get impeller off hayward power flo sp1525

Once you have the housing apart, 6 screws/nuts I believe, make sure you have the power completely shut off at the breaker. Remove the rear housing on the motor to expose the armature (shaft). Depending on the motor, you will need a 7/16" open end wrench to hold the shaft, be careful not to damage any components, you may have to remove the capacitor or switch to access the shaft. Once the shaft is being held, try to remove the impeller by turning counter-clockwise facing the impeller. If it will not move, you may have to use an impeller removal tool. c85eef7.gifMost pool supply places have them. Be sure to install a new shaft seal, its best to replace the seal anytime you mess with the impeller. Having a good shaft seal will save your motor bearings.

This video helps, although its not the same pump..

I hope this helps....
