I had a similar problem with my HP C6180 printer, and HP tech support was useless. I had no paper stuck and did all the steps from HP.com. My carriage jam also came with a grinding sound (it was not able to move all the way to the right). I looked inside and and on the lower right side there was a white pad that was raised (I think this cleans the print heads). After unplugging the printer, I used a screw driver to pushed this pad down and to the back of the printer. It moved back and a black sponge like pad moved up from under the front of the printer. I then closed the lid, and used the HP software to clean and realign the print heads. Everything is working fine now. No guarantees this will work for you, but it saved me from having to get a new printer.

I can't get the replace black cartridge error to clear on my HP LaserJet M1522. I replaced the cartridge with out getting rid of the error????

This problem is not uncommon for this machine. When HP desgined this machine, they used a single sensor that detects that a cartridge is inserted, but that same sensor also works for paper jams. If you happen to have a jam and restart the machine, it sees that jam as a non toner cartridge error. I have also had a few cases where the flag that the cartridge pushes against to tell the machine it has a cartridge gets jammed. To check this, remote the toner cartridge and look carefully for any bits of paper. If you find none, look on the left side of the cavity where the cartridge sits. The cartridge flag is on this side, it is a little square plastic that the cartridge pushes back when you put the cartridge in. Jiggle this to ensure that it moves freely. Often just jiggling this will clear up the error. Be careful not to touch the spongy roller that is just below where this flag is.

Our printer is not picking up the paper from the tray and is saying it is jammed. There is not jam.

Hi there !

Is your printer had jammed before and it stop printing in the middle of printing? For some reasons, paper can jammed due to printing interruptions, printer turn off, improper loading or feeding of paper, roller feeder had problem and others.

If jams before and paper have let inside the printer, please do the following first:

1. Check th paper tray, see inside if the paper is jammed inside that compartment. If there is paper jammed, remove, turn off your printer and turn on. This will solve your problem.

2. If not, open the printer cartridge door, remove the toner cartridge and look for paper jammed inside. If these is paper inside, remove it, turn off the printer and turn it on.

3. If you cannot see the paper jammed inside, the paper maybe inside the heating area. To remove paper, just turn off your printer and turn it on to roll over the paper jammed inside of it.

4. If the printer is blinking and saying there is paper jammed. You have to check the cartridge toner by opening the cartridge door, remove the cartridge and return it back but be sure it is well firmly fitted.

If following the 4 diagnostic procedure and you cannot locate the jammed paper, the problem lies on the toner cartridge itself. When toner cartridge is not rolling over, it will stop feeding the paper and it will cause printer to jammed.

To diagnose the problem, put old printer cartridge and if no toner power, just shake it well and I am sure there is still small amount of powder inside it and if it prints, the toner cartridge you purchase is defective. Reason, factory defect or improper refilling and part is not working well.

I hope it is helpful and thank you for using FixYa !

My HP Officejet J4680 states that there is a cartridge jam. How do I fix this?

this issue is a little tricky as the unit may think there is a paper jam
first make sure the craddle - where the ink cartridge sit - can move freely, if it can then look for any bits of paper that may be stuck around it or in the machine, clean the rollers on the rear access door of the unit as well.
if the error message doesnt clear out then try the next step
If the carriage chute will not move then disconnect the power cord press and hold # 3 at the same time and as holding those 2 buttons re connect the power cord. if the carriage fails to move upon reset then you have a carriage jam and your printer needs servicing

Paper Jam Issue with the HP Deskjet 5440

Clean the contacts on the HP Cartridge. I've had the same error before and i switched it to a fresh new cartridge.. works fine ever since. THen i decided to switch back to the old cartridge, same error as you but i cleaned the contacts on the cartridge, works for a while but done after a week. Problem is that the ribbon circuit is rusted and the printer doesnt recognize the ink anymore.

Also make sure you both have the ink cartridges in place. Make sure it is seated properly inside.

hope this helps!

Canon copier D761's printer cartridge is jammed

That door above the cartridge needs to be open all of the way, maybe even push it back gentley to make sure. Should be at 90-92 degree angle. Then the cartridge will come out.
