Glass top stoves are not designed to do canning on, sorry. the only thing you can do for the top is that special cleaner as it has a "wax" in it and will help to prevent stains, but not scratches.
remember your top is glass and it will scratch.
your oven can be calibrated to help it to bake better. what you need to do is make sure you have a temperature problem that can be corrected by calibration. try to just set the oven temps up or down 10 or 20 degrees and try to bake the same items. if this helps then you can reset the calibration of the control as per your owners manual, if you dont have one then i can tell you how if you can tell me the brand and model.

So, your pot scatched the surface of your glas top?
Stop using those pots.
You can repair scatched glass with a very fine "sanding paper", similar to those used to repair the crystal of a watch or reading glass but you should get help form someone who really knows what he is doing

Tip

Maintenance for your Range, Stove, or Oven

Keeping your cooking appliances in the top working condition, takes a little bit of tender loving care from you. You use them everyday and they need to be taken care of properly to continue to give you the best performance possible.

Most people are aware that they can remove the parts and pieces on the tops, but do not know that the knobs can easily be removed to clean them and behind them. By simply pulling out away from the appliance, most knobs can be removed. This allows you to easily clean the knob and the area behind it.

The tops of many newer appliances often need special care. Watch out for abrasive cleaners. Many of the cream type cleaners have particles in them that are abrasive. A good glass cleaner will often work well for many of the different types of tops.

Oven can be cleaned with an oven cleaner. Be sure to give the oven cleaners enough time to work. The hard burnt residue that is left in the oven will take time to penetrate through.

Be patient and do not get in a hurry. My advice is to not use the self cleaning mode on your oven, I have seen many, many, people looking for help because their oven has failed to operate correctly, or even unlock, after running the self cleaning feature.

Another thing that gets overlooked many times is the oven light. The bulb blows out and it is not missed until you need it. Check you oven light to make sure that it is working. These also are not a normal light bulb. They are designed to withstand the high heat of the oven environment. It is a good idea to get a replacement bulb and have it on hand just in case yours burns out at a bad time. Change the bulb is really very simple if you have the replacement bulb available when you need it.

These simple things will help you to keep your cooking appliances in top working condition. They serve you well everyday. Give them some attention to keep them working for you.

OUR HOME WE BOUGHT CAME WITH A RANGE, BUT NO MANUAL, WHERE CAN I GET A COPY OF THE MANUAL FOR THIS RANGE?

You will need to find the model number to get a manual. http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ provides a search box for looking up the manuals. For GE ranges, the model number could be in several places: on the frame behind the warming or storage drawer or kickplate, on the left leg behind the warming or storage drawer or kickplate, on the frame of the oven behind the door, under the left front surface burner, or under the lift-up cook-top at the center or on the right hand side.

If you clean the oven with non-abrasive products and avoid the spray on oven cleaners, you are unlikely to damage the surfaces/range even without the manual for your range. (Use glass cleaners for glass cook-top.) Warm water mixed with a mild detergent is useful for most spills. Avoid cleaning the seal around the oven door; damaging the seal may cause major problems.

I hope this helps.

You can purchase special ceramic abrasive cleaner but I doubt it will suffice. There are other glass polishers but I suggest phoning the Fisher and Paykel customer service line for their recommendations. Cheers

How/what can be used to clean range ''glass top'' can those green spunges be used/

Oven cleaner, use EASY-OFF Fume Free Oven Cleaner, it is the best
for cooked stains.

You should not use anything but a soft cloth, and if you use the cleaner
you won't need something abrasive.

Once you put tiny scratches into the glass, it will be more difficult to clean.

After you clean it with oven cleaner, rinse it with a warm wash cloth a few times, to make sure no cleaner is left behind, and read the directions.

I have a glass top gemini maytag, the top is white I have tried many cleaning products but cannot get it clean.

I used Cerama Bryte cooktop cleaner that I bought at Bed Bath & Beyond. It comes with a scraper and a special scratch pad. I applied it has directed and let it dry on the cooled cooktop and all the burn marks and baked on stuff wiped right off the cooktop. I make sure I use it about once a week and the cooktop stays looking good.

I'm not familiar with this unit exactly but I'll give you some guidelines. You have a double layer or more of glass and the glass inside the unit is your problem. Generally, cleaning glass on ovens is no problem if you use cleaners that leave no residues, don't stress the glass and don't scratch it. Prepare a flat surface covered with newspaper to clean your glass. You may use a blue glass cleaner, a scrubby or VERY fine steel wool. Never use any cleaner which leaves residue. Use lots of liquid and very little pressure. Finish with a soft cloth. Clean the inside of the door and any of the gasket you can get to. Use only a sponge and detergent unless the area is really a mess.

First, be aware that the door is spring loaded and as you remove items, it will tend to snap closed. Note that there are probably screws that are near the base of the door, probably accessed from below. Remove these first. Then, remove side screws and carefully remove the panel holding the glass. This probably comes out into the room. There is a danger that the glass is not secured inside the panel so have the door fully open when 'dropping' the outside panel. Note the positions of all clips. You may even want to take a digital picture or two. When reassembling, never overtighten anything! All parts should lay flat and insert easily. Get assistance with reassembly...you'll need another pair of hands.

First, determine what this gook is. If it is grayish, it is ash and can be removed with a rag and plain water. You'll always find ash as a byproduct of the cleaning. If it seems to be oven grease and is located in the gasket or gasket area ONLY, get some WD 40 and spray it on the gunk. Let it loosen up and remove it with a rag. You may need multiple applications. If possible, follow up with a soap solution to remove as much of the WD 40 residue as possible. Note, this may cause some smoking when the oven is next cleaned. Be sure to ventilate the area well while using this or any other solvent. Do not use the solvent on glass, it may discolor when heated. Use a standard glass blue liquid glass cleaner or water. If the glass won't clean easily, you may use a WET mild abrasive pad or steel wool VERY gently...so as not to scratch the glass. Follow up with a dampened rag. Anything you leave on the glass will be baked on...so make it clean! You may also use this procedure in the gasket area on the porcelain. Porcelain is a glass-based paint. It should not be scratched. Be patient.
Be aware that if you take door apart that the door is counter balanced. Removing a significant amount of weight by taking off pieces of the assembly may cause it to slam closed. Each of the two thicknesses of glass are mounted separately. Usually, there are some kind of clips holding the glass. Note that there is often fragile insulation inside the door. Avoid touching it or breathing in any dust it may emit. You may need a second pair of hands to align the door front and the bolt holes when re-assembling.
In the future, do not wait too long between cleanings. Use a rag to remove heavy spillage as soon as you find it, don't wait for a cleaning cycle. If your oven is very dirty, use a 3 hour setting or longer to finish the job if you have goo left in your oven after the cycle.
