Depending on manufacturers and such, the catalyst detector element itself may need to be replaced occasionally. Usually cheaper and faster to just get another detector.

SOURCE: our alarm is chirping but not going off

These units, even though "plug-in" also have a 9 volt battery for backup purposes if the A/C goes off. If the display reads "Lb" it means the battery indeed needs to be replaced. Unplug the unit, turn it over and slide the battery access compartment open to replace the battery. If the display reads "Err" and the unit is still under warranty, call Kidde at 1-800-880-6788 to obtain warranty service. If the unit is out-of-warranty (5 or 7 years depending on manufacturing date) replace it as it will not detect CO if it is displaying "Err". *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. My firex is chirping every morning at 4 am, I have changed the battery one week ago, what's wrong?

One of the other alarms connected to it may need a new battery, if they are hardwired together in a "chain"

I have two firex smoke and carbon dectectors, and 3 smoke detectors in bedrooms.

do they beep three times, pause then beep three times again? if so, they are going into alarm. since they all ring together, the only way to tell which one is causing the problem is to look for one where the leds are different than the others. If your detectors are more than 10 years old, replace them all as required by the national fire code (NFPA72). If they are only doing single chirps, that is usually an indication of a low battery...perhaps the breaker for the circuit has tripped causing them to run on battery only. good luck

I have the Firex i4618, after changing the battery it continues to chirp, have tried 2 new Duracell proper model batteries with same result.

Smoke Detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-7 years. So sounds like you need new one (Its not worth to buy just a sensor). Take a look on amazon Amazon: Amazon com Smoke Alarm. I hope this helped you. Have a nice day

Firex i4618

This is a smoke alarm and is not intended to be connected to your alarm system. While there is often a way to connect a listed relay for that purpose, connecting your smoke alarms to your alarm system can cause as many problems as not. Because the devices are not made to interface directly with the alarm system, proper supervision is usually not achievable. Loss of power might even cause false alarms. Some alarm companies even have policies in place forbidding such connections. Additionally, in the event of a false alarm you will need to call an electrician because most alarm technicians are not licensed to work on high voltage smokes. As a rule, you're much better off to add a few LV or RF smoke detectors to your alarm system for monitoring than to try to interface smoke alarms. Hope this was helpful.

My new Firex 21007581 with a new battery keeps chirping. What is the problem and how do I fix it? Thanks Sal

He said it had a new battery so he already did that and why would you service a $12 throw away smoke alarm? This FIREX he identified is the 4618 and will also chirp while the LED light blinks, chirp is about 30 seconds after blink if the unit itself needs to be replaced because there is something wrong with it as opposed to a different chirp pattern for battieries. If still unerwarrantee FIREX will replace otherwise go buy a new one.

3 new Kidde i4618 smoke detectors were put in last week. Last night one of them began chirping. I went to the store and bought brand new batteries and replaced them and tested the units which all worked....

smoke detectors work by smelling the air across a radioactive anode which upsets the electronics and sets off the alarm
it can be set off not only by smoke but by heat and gasses in the air
the new and better product is a photo electric detector which alerts earlier and can be installed connected to each room and into the house power or they come with a 10 years lithium battery
It could be a faulty unit so take it back for a warranty exchange unit

Smoke alarm keeps bleeping

Hi,

Here are the steps:
Was this always like this? If not, change the batteries, clean it up. Consult the local fire dept. The help for free.

If that does not work, you will need to get it serviced/repaired.
