Question about Akai PT4298HD Rear Projection Television

4 Answers

I have a AKAI Model PTH5498 HDTV that worked great and had great picture and sound until it was turned on for 20 minuets and then it shut off. If you unplug the tv and then plug it back in you can hear something insude of the tv click 3 to 8 times and then the on light in the front control panel stays on. My PTH5498 worked one day and then not the next, it will not turn on manually or with the remote. I unplugged it and then plugged it back in and now the red LED light on the front at Timer is lite but it still won't turn on. What can I do to resolve this?

It can be power supply problem or some thing wrong in deflection area.
You need to have service manual to check above areas in TV.
Let me know if you need further info.

Short on the power and deflection boards---with set unplugged take a careful look inside for burnt or blackened parts etc.

My Akai PTH5498 54 in. Rear Projection hdtv-ready Television power shuts off intermittently. Sometime after only a few minutes sometimes after an hour or so.

There could be number of problems but most likely its the horizontal chip that is heating up and failing. If you are a tech feel the chip after the set shuts of it's normal for it to get hot but not extremly hot. If it is extremly hot it is your problem.

Akaia PTH5498

The STKs are common and if you have an experienced electronics tech around they can replace them for much less money but the tech must have advanced soldering and IC exchange experience.

The STK ics, two of them, can be purchased on line for around $20 to $40 each.

Partstore has two models available - one for around $40 and another for around $55.

The part number is STK392-110 and if you google you can find them for as little as $6/each but I don't recommend the cheap ones as they are not reliable.

It takes a good tech around 3 or 3 hours to take the old ones out and solder in the new ones. Also, it is likely one or two resistors are burnt and will need replacing as well.
