If you cannot see any wireless networks, check the hardware wireless switch (should be on the front or the side depending on model) also if you look at the adaptors properties and go to configure there is sometimes a software override to the hard ware switch

let me know if thats the info you needed

My sony laptop with vista wont go on line but my older toshiba with xp has no problem. This only happens at home. My sony can get on line everywhere else. I noticed that my sony when i connect to my router...

Is this through wireless?
Maybe your hope router is encrypted and has a WEP key.
Can't log in without it. Mayne your old XP laptop has been set up by someone else and they typed in the key.

Try using a cable see if that works. If it doesn't then it's a setting on the laptop and nothing wrong with the router.

Wireless internet connection

Hi there I would tell you why:
1) your DSL speed band only 1.5M and the upload could be lower then 256K speed. that is not avalible to get good condition for more laptop wireless online at same time
2) other thing, your laptop wieless online in your router situation that depends on the laptop wireless card type, high level (faster)card will get more speed band and aganst other laptop.
so you could not setting any more to get improved.
hope help you something fixed, please take a rating let me know how much helped you thanks! keep in touch your question

Not able to connect to router

Do you have your router secured with a WEP key? if so, have you enter that key on your computer?
check that and get back to this forum and give me an answer

Pavilion wont stay connected to internet through linksys router

without looking at laptops myself, if it's not a problem where somehow a connection got loose or built up dust and debris, then it could be a hardware issue where the pavilion wifi isn't as good as the vaio's. The same thing happens to me on my hp pavilion dv2000.

Sony Vaio laptop unable to detect wireless access point

CompuLayne: Hello bluebells953

Netgear is quite tricky as is with all other routers, but I don't think the router is your problem. Try to do the following.

1) Turn off Vaio laptop
2) unplug router
3) unplug modem
4) plug back in modem - wait for it to boot up
5) plug back in router - wait for it to boot up
6) turn back on the Vaio - log in and see if it sees the SID. If it isn't broadcasting, you might have to enter it in manually and select connect to non broadcasting network

Wireless

i know one pc is ok, but have you checked that you have the latest firmware for your router as this can stop the disconnections, i can confirm this as i reverted back to an earlier firmware version and it started dropping again, back to a lter one and all is ok.

Just check your wireless connection is not connecting below 24MBPS as it wont surf the net at less than this; this is not your isp speed but your wireless speed

Internet problem

It could be several problems:
1. Your wireless router misconfiguration.
2. Your wireless router is bad
3. Your wireless card misconfiguration on your laptop
4. Your wireless card is bad.

If you never had problems with your wireless connection before and you haven't change configuration on your router or your laptop. I have seen and repaired this problem by replaceing wireless router.

Good luck!!!

Cannot connect new laptop to internet

Do you have a router set up? If not two things you can do:

1) Buy and setup wireless router wired with desktop and wireless with laptop.

OR

2) Remove network cable from back of Desktop and plug into laptop each time you want to use Internet. Cheaper option but more hassle to switch back and forth.

Laptop WILL NOT BOOT

Hi,

You seem to have two (2) problems:
1. wireless connection;
2. powering up.

On powering up, pls try:
a. charge the batteries at least overnight;
b. run the laptop with the AC adapter only and the battery removed;
c. do "b" but delay powering on the laptop for a couple of minutes.

On the wireless, pls try:
i. determine if a WEP or WPA security key is being used;
ii. check your router configurations;
iii. do a reset of your router (this would of course would set the router to default/factory values. This would be a last recourse since it is possible you will loose all Internet connectivity. Better to save your router configurations or copy them down somewhere.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
