CD "ERROR" message

CD display "ERROR" after a few seconds and doesn't play or rotate. Pressing cd/Disc Skip will clear the message so that the open/close button will function. I can put in 2 CDs but the tray doesn'r rotate for a 3rd one. If i insert a CD then press the play/pause then within a few 4-5 seconds the "ERROR" message appears amd to get the CDs out I have to press the cd/disc skip again. I did not try to use the CD when I first received the unit so now it is a few months old. The other features of the unit works just fine.

SOURCE: CD Player not playing any audio CDs

The laser is damaged or dirty. Try gently swabbing the lens with rubbing alcohol and drying with canned air. If this fails the laser is damaged and unrepairable.

Is there an easy fix to the problem given in the details section below?

No there will not be a easy fix for this. You can keep putting up with this the way you have been or buy a new receiver and try to sell this one on craigslist, eBay, etc.

KD-HDR40 will not play any CDs, only displays a "CD reading" message.

Sounds like CD mechanism failure. Did some sticker or anything went inside? Any way, need service.

"no disc" error message

Try unplugging the unit, then remove the cover. Take a cotton swab, wet one end with glass cleaner, and clean the lens on the laser assembly. Use the other end to dry it off and finish cleaning. Wipe very gently, do not press down hard on the lens.

This problem is usually (not always) caused by dust and smog accumulating on the lens, preventing the laser from reading the disc. Symptoms are skipping, spinning and not reading, or "no disc" errors.

CD player won't play after pressing the play button on all tracks

This problem is usually caused by dust or smog accumulating on the laser lens assembly. Unplug the unit and remove the top cover. Take a cotton swab and wet one end with glass cleaner. Wipe it gently across the lens (do not apply pressure). Use the other end of the swab to dry the lens. Reassemble the unit and test for skipping or non-playing discs.
