After having this problem I believe I found a solution. I think the problem is related to tha ambient temperture of the room where the dryer is located. If it's too cold, you get the 8.8 error. When I first had the error it was at 7:00 in the morning trying to dry some clothes that were in the washing machine overnight. I couldn't get the dryer to work and had to go out for a few hours. When I got back around 11:00, the dryer worked fine. The only difference I could think of was that it was warmer than before. So a few weeks later I rememberd this and tried to test my theory. I waited for a very cold morning and tried the dryer and got the 8.8 error. Then I took a small patio table heater and turned it on in front of the dryer for about 20 minutes. The dryer fired up right away. I've used the same routine whenever I get the 8.8 error and it's always solved the problem for me. Hope this helps

Mine is 4 years old and the pump went within 8 months! The dryer has had 6 new pumps in total! It was last fixed 6 months ago and now playing up again! I dont even constantly use my dryer! I am very disappointed with Siemens now, my last dryer lasted me 10 years and it was constantly on the go when my children were young! Here comes, tomorrow I have got to book another repair! No more Siemens for me.
Maytag Bravos 400 Series Dryer purchased August 2009 - November 2009 required repair as I also experience the timer readjusting itself to excessive extended drying time when clothing was bone dry and hot. Sometimes extended to 1 hour 40 minutes! Serviceman stated problem was the Sensors in the dryer. Part number 8577274 Thermister and "Old Ohmed out open" whatever that means as listed on my repair ticket. Have not had that particular problem since. Make sure your dryer vents from dryer to outside are clean and clear of lint. Will help immensely. I have many other issues with this dryer it has been down FOUR times in 9 months. Fighting with Maytag to replace this lemon!

THE KENMORE DRYER I HAVE... IF REN IN THE COTTON CYCLE IT WILL RUN FOR 50 MINUTES AND SHUT OFF. ITS BOLWING HOT AIR AND THE OTHER CYCLES SEEM TO WORK FINE WITH OUT SHUTING DOWN SO ID APPRECIATE A TIP ON WHAT THIS PROBLEM COULD BE
There is a switch under the lid,Look for a slot onder where the lid rests on the dryer, there is an actuator under there where the dryer lid when shut should avtivate, this switch is either bent out of place,or the little pin that hits it when shut is missing or broke off.
