You need to change the boot order in the bios of the computer. It is also called the setup. When you turn the computer on, in the top right hand corner of your screen you will see F2-Setup F12-boot menu. Select F2 and when you get into the bios go through the options until you find "boot order" or just "boot". That will show what devices your computer will use, and in what order, to boot up. If the floppy is below the main hard drive then it won't work unless the hard drive is defective. Move the floppy to the top of the list, exit saving changes, and it will now check the floppy first.

How can I use External USB DVD rom for Boot to dell optiplex GX260 series.

You have to change the boot settings in bios (hit F2 as you see the Dell Logo) and in the boot menu look for one that says boot from USB, or external CD drive, and move it to the top of the list so it will boot before the hard drive does.

Windows XP CD cannot be detected in Dell Optiplex gx260

Your optical drive might be dirty or bad. Try an official Dell disk to see if it will read it, especially a Dell drivers and Utilities disk. Also try a boot flash drive or boot floppy(since your system is a older) to get the system up. If your system comes up any of those ways, I would try a disk cleaner. If that doesn't help, then you probably have a bad cd drive. You could also look in bios setup to make sure the bios is showing your cd drive. It should list it there somewhere. Probably on the first page.

How is the power supply removeddell gx260

Unplug computer and then press power button for 5 seconds to drain capacitors. You'll need to remove the case screws and case to get to power supply. From the back, you'll see smaller screws near the fan output vent of the power supply. All screws are phillips #2. Dell sometimes uses special clips that you have to press or pull to release objects, but may not for power supply. You'll have to disconnect all power cables from all internal devices including hard drives, CD/DVD drives, floppy drives, motherboard and any power assisted graphics cards. There may be additional chassis screws holding power supply to chassis. If you are replacing power supply, be sure new one is of at least same wattage as the original. New supply should match the same configuration as the old one and have the same style motherboard connector. Name brands like Compaq and Dell have used supplys that are specific to their PC lines. But, you should still be able to find OEM replacements. Looking for a replacement, try www.pricewatch.com.

My gx260 cannot boot up, there is alarm 3 & 4 light display near power push button.

I have a GX260 and a GX270. It sounds like maybe your hard drive may not be plugged on all the way. If you cannot access even the boot section of your computer, this could be the problem. Alternately, it is possible your hard drive may be inaccessible do to damage or failure. Can you give me more information? Thanks.

DELL GX260 bootup problem

To start with I would run FDSIK from a DOS boot disk and delete the partitions on the hard drive. Then reload the operating system. There is no telling what has been loaded on the system. After the reload the DELL should boot normally.
