Question about Acer AL2016W 20" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Computer won't recognize monitor driver

I have an Acer 24" wide screen LCD monitor. (P241WA)

Everything works fine but is running on a default generic driver. My computer can't find this Acer. Because of this, the Acer software "eDisplay Management" won't work either.

I am running on XP in a HP Media Center PC (m7250n) with 3 gb ram. My graphics card drivers have been updated (ATI Radeon 300).

I do not have anything but USB and/or standard monitor cable hook ups on this computer, so DVI won't help.

When I commented about the USB I just meant it was a possible hookup. I am only connected by the VGA monitor cable. The monitor itself has all types of hookups available (VGA, DVI, HDMI).

Its the usb, if u connect the monitor via the standard port, the vga port, it will work. If your monitor only have an dvi cable you can fix that by an adapter. That adapter should be an DVI to VGA.

Good luck to you

I would go ahead and boot into safe mode where you say it does work and then take a look. See how it detected it...ie look in device manager and see if it picked it up by it's true brand/type etc. Check the settings both of the display and on the envision itself. Check the resolution selection. It's probably picking it up as a lower res. but when it boots into reg windows may be trying to run at full res and perhaps that's what it won't do. Check to see what driver it's using. It may need the specific driver from envision and not the generic driver. It could also be a bad pin on the envision itself.

If you have another computer you can hook it up to, do that to make sure the envision is working. That way you can deduce which is the problem, the monitor or the setup in your laptop.

The resolution is done at the PC video output setting, not at the monitor, you should set the PC video resolution to be at monitor native resolution: 1920 X 1200 @60Hz This will give the correct aspect ratio of your display.

Does the Acer V223-WBD 22" LCD Monitor operate with an old computer using Windows 95 software?

The monitor does not care what OS you are running, the video card does need correct driver for it, the video card may not have capability due to not enough video memory to run at wide screen 16:9 native resolution mode of the monitor.

This is known as Dual-Link DVI, it is a requirement for many high resolution large wide screen LCD monitors. (WQXGA 2560 x 1600 resolutions and such) You are correct, you must ensure that the display adapter you are using supports Dual Link and you are using a 24 pin Dual Link DVI cable

When your computer is starting up, hit F8 and you'll see the safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. screen...You should see a choice that says "enable vga mode". Select that and windows will start and the os will select a screen resolution for you. After that, everything will work fine...I hope.

Good Luck!
