I was assured it was the h/d, which i have since replaced, the result, exactlly the same.if it is the power supply, where would i find it, and how would i go out a transplant from a similar model ? thanks. Jon. ( any diagrams would be greatlly appreciated ). Oh yeah, pls state the content of any email replies, saves me listing them as spam.................cheers

Re: ibm thinkpad power supply problem ???
It actually sounds like something may be shorting out the system, remove the cd-rom and try it then, ive had an a20m do the same thing and it turned out to be the ram, so always check for the simplest, remove each 1 at a time and try to power it on again

This sounds like the error you would get on an IBM thinkpad or Lenovo laptop. There are third party sources for these all over the place. As an example, I own an IBM thinkpad model A20M. If I google a20m CMOS battery, I am sure to find a plethora of sources online. Being Canadian, I go to Ever Corperation at www.evercorp.com for any replacement batteries I need. Make sure when you order your battery that you aren't ordering the main battery pack, and are indeed ordering the CMOS battery. Installation instructions should arrive with the battery.
To turn on the wireless on IBM Think Pad 2628 A20m you can try the below options
IBM IBM General - Some models have the wireless slide button on the side of the laptop. IBM DV series - use the antenna-like button found on the upper section of your keyboard. IBM R40 - Use the Fn+F5 key-combo. IBM Thinkpad (General) - Most have software switch or button on Left hand side. IBM Thinkpad (model not further identified) wireless switch on Front edge of case. IBM T43/X32 - Fn+F5 -Click "Turn On" IBM ZD series use the antenna-like button just below the “Lock” key.

Does the battery charge AT ALL
Before buying a new battery go to my computer hardware device manager you may just need a new driver.Update restart see what happens
If not then you do need a new battery. That should solve your problem.
