Alice, read follow :
identifying problem : this is sound me hardware problem,on scroll area; Causes :normally this happen by water damage (because of wet finger touching), Solution :
Clean with alcohol the scroll area and keypad area on board, and let it dry for 4hours, it will start working.
Material need :
screw drivers tools for device, Brush,and alcohol.
Notes:
if you don't know how to assembly and dissembly the device search on you tube.com but if are you not able to do this at home, please don't try without supervision of technician,give some official repairer to fix for you.

Try putting a small drop of kitchen de-greaser (Mr Muscle etc) on your finger and rolling the ball with that finger. Do not pour it on to the device, just a small amount on your finger should cure it.
Works for me every time.

I found out on here how to fix it. You take the battery out, while the phone is turned on, leave it for 30 secs then put it back in. So far it seems to be working.
