SOURCE: power supply light has blinking green light

If the power box is bad, The computer will not come on. if you only get a green light, you would need to start with replaceing the power box, if you get a new one and the same thing happens, then the mother board is bad too.

Your power supply is fried. I had the same problem with my Bestec ATX 250 power supply. I fixed the problem by installing the StatTech model: ATXPOWER250. It was easy to install and works well. It is almost identical to the original but more quiet. I got it for $29 at MicroCenter.com. Also at online Newegg.com, Radioshack.com, Provantage.com, June 20,2009

if its under warranty just return it to the store or to the authorized service center... if not there is some helpful tips to help you.. (1) for continued protection please unplug the unit from the wall socket.. for your own safety please wait for at lease a day to automatically discharged any electrical shocks stored on the unit (for beginners)... (2) remove the protected cover (3) inspect and observe the circuit esp on the power supply circuit. because almost all electronics brand are using the SMPS (switch mode power supply) now. so even the slight changes in resistance on resistor may cause the problem.. but the most common cause of the problem in the SMPS is the filter capacitor. so the easiest way to know that a defective capacitor is by looking by its shape.. esp on a round head shape. you can easily notice it by comparing it to the other shapes... mostly it value about 16 volt 1500 uf or 25 volts 2200 uf. but no matter the value is. just look for the shape and you can notice it what i mean... ty

On the back of this power supply, Theres a red switch with the numbers, 115 and 230. depending on which way it was switched on. Can someone please explain to me what this is?

Hi inforis,
That is a setting that will change the voltages, and you do not want to flip that switch. If you do there is a chance you will fry your computer. Different countries use different voltages. It's cheaper to make a switch & some circuits inside the PSU than make a whole new one. List of countries with frequency & voltage (http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~INTECS/WorldVoltage.htm)
Hope that answers you question well enough.

My Codegen Switching Power Supply 350W Model 300Xi Atx2 o3 (P4) is smoking when I turn on my PC

Using 115 volt or 208 volt switch?Found on back of supply
Is the fan clog with dirt and is it turning?

Check your wiring as some supplys can be wired for 115 volt or 208 volt.you want 115 volt.

I cannot get my computer to start up. I am trying

i guess u r a professional..as u r handling power supplies..
ur point of view has always a priority..

no 'the led on the power supply be bright at first and then go dim after connecting the power cord'..this happens when there's no/incorrect oscillation/frequency due to push-pull failure, incorrect wattage output etc.
well, itz likely to b the power supply causing it..!!..

however, check the following:

1) the smps itself may b defective/faulty..check the outputs of smps viz. 0v (black~ground); +12v (yellow); +5v (red, green~ps-on, violet~pg & grey~sb); -12v (blue); -5v(white); +3.3v(orange)..
the 'oscillator and error amplifier ic', or pwm switching regulator circuit..look for defective protector-transformer/resistance(esp 4.7k)/mosfet..

2) if itz not the smps, then it must b ur main/mother board..see with a debug card for mb error..may b short..look for defective capacitors(esp above 1000mfd)/mosfets..go through the mb's south bridge n the circuit lie around atx connector....

3) remove/clean dust neatly..dust is non-uniform in nature n may cause jam/short circuitry/excess resistance n many more..resulting an increase in heat..

4) open the CPU Heat-Sink with fan out of the socket..put some "Heat Sink Compound" (available in local electronics chip level spare market) between the cpu/processor and the CPU Heat Sink *** fan..resit/fit it tightly in position..

5) see if the ram(s) is loose/faulty..open clean/remove carbon & or oxide formed on the teeth with an eraser n resit it..

6) check cmos battery (above +3v)..

..plz give higher priority to step2 (as listed above) CAREFULLY..

always better to seek advise from ur system admin/vendor....

Ok i neeed help!!!!!!!! on my power supply there is a switch which you can move to 115 volts to 230 volts. everytime i switch it to 230 volts the computer wont turn on? why is this happening? when i put it...

This is the power supply for your PC, depend on your local country power supply, some country like North US may use 110 V in their daily use electrical stuff and some country like Euro, UK use 240 V.

Your PC power supply is design to suit this 2 type of power input so can be sold everywhere. What u need to do is to make sure your local country power supply voltage and then just switch the input correctly, i think u have done it.

POWER SUPPLY PROBLOMS!!!!!!!!

Unless your household electrical service is running at 230 volts, there's absolutely no reason to set your supply for 230. When you choose the 230v setting the supply REQUIRES 230 volts to become operational...Which is not going to happen on a 115 volt service.
