Question about Computers & Internet

Sony VAIO FE690P Bluetooth device doesn't work.

I spent two years thinking my laptop (SONY VAIO VGN FE 690P) didn't have Bluetooth. Then I realized that the Wireless LAN Utility also said Bluetooth Device when I hovered on the taskbar icon. I opened the Wireless LAN Utility and read the Help section. Apparently, there was supposed to be a section on the utility labeled Bluetooth Device with a checkbox that would allow me to turn it on and off. This section and checkbox have never been there. Also, I noticed that the taskbar icon was represented in Help as having both LAN and a B, but the one on my computer has always only shown LAN. Sony support was unhelpful, as always. One person told me to install a different Bluetooth driver, which I did and of course it didn't work. I uninstalled it. I went back to Sony support. Another person had me open Device Manager. There was nothing expressly labeled ''Bluetooth Device'' under Network Adaptors, but there were three items. He then me to reset the BIOS to its default settings and then reinstall the Bluetooth driver in system recovery because the system was not recognizing the Bluetooth driver. He said it makes sense that the LAN might work and the Bluetooth might not because they are two different drivers that are simply managed by the same utility.

I am very wary of Sony tech support based on past experience, so I would really like a second opinion. (I'm also very annoyed that this feature was supposed to be factory installed, but obviously has never worked properly.)

I have heard that resetting the BIOS usually isn't necessary and shouldn't really be done, especially since I have never changed it. Also, does this seem like a valid course of action? If not, what should I do?

Thanks for answering, but in the wireless device switch window there is no option to enable the Bluetooth device. There are only options to switch between 2.4 and 5 GHz LAN.

Motion eye doesn't work on Windows 7 Sony Vaio VGN-FZ220U

Your original Sony customised version of Windows included some dedicated webcam software plus webcam drivers. It is probable that you need both the software and the drivers from the Sony support website. The question is will the software work without you having a Sony customised version of Windows. Usually, it will work so try downloading and installing them. Check here:

Does the Sony VAIO vgn sz430n come with Bluetooth and, if not doesn't, does it matter what Bluetooth dongle I get?

I would start by pulling up your laptops configuration and see if it has a bluetooth card installed, most newer laptops do but it all depends on how the laptop was configured when ordered or purchased. Check your connections section and see which wireless cards are installed.
