Question about Intel Motherboard

1 Answer

NO USB / Ethernet Connection

My PC - I re-installed Windows.

I have not recovery disk, or any type of driver disk. (none came with the machine),

Now that Windows is re-installed .. I have no USB working, or no connection to the internet via that computer.

I try going through my Add Hardware, but windows does not reconize that there is new hardware. (USB / Ethernet connection).

My PC has a MSI Km2m Combo board (if that helps).

Any suggestions

You'll need to install the drivers particularly the via lan drivers
get them from here
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=527

might want to grab all the drivers and burn a disk for the future

I have attempted to create a recovery disk.32GB Flash drive. Only several tiny files totaling 1,974 KB are on the flash drive now that the process is complete.

I making the following assumptions.

1. You are using Windows 8.

2. You have not deleted the recovery discs on the drive.

So
A) Type recovery in the search bar (spyglass)
B) Run the recovery program, each manufacturer has their own version, but it covers 3 discs of 4.7Gb long. Select all discs to be saved.
C) Choose the USB flash disc as the destination, having put it in before type in the search criteria.
D) It then will save the recovery disc, but none of the data, to restore Windows operating system to same type of PC laptop.

Lost system recovery disk. Can i make one?

No need to make one: a recovery disk is nothing more than an Windows install disk with all the drivers already in. All you need instead of one is a generic Windows install disk, with the key from the label at the bottom of the pc, and another disk (or a USB stick) with all the drivers, which you can get from here

Wireless set up with Omnibook XE2-DB Windows 98

there is no support for PC that old at all. and for sure windows 98
heck goodWill stores , throws those in the trash help,
they are no longer viable. period
same store sells $10 laptops that are 10 years old with Windows 7
and 100000 better than that old hunk of junk,
sorry but that is a fact.

RadioLan 140 PCMCIA (now called PC-card, i like the old name too)
what make you think they still in business or even sell driver for it.
company from 1999 , the book on it says
that card came with a Disk to install the driver, lost that.
good luck finding THAT. (omg, so rare... )

this old note book , no longer supported by HP or MS
has 1 USB port , no wifi, no ethernet, yes, dial up modem.
if USB works (test it , i bet it dont")

they try to buy a USB,wifi dongle that has windows 98
drivers with it. Be hard to do and the software if downloaded
will be rife with viruses...

The choices are , again.
1: that dial up port, there called the modem jack.
2: PCARD that has drivers for wifi, seems your are (rare to none)
3: USB wifi with win98 drivers.
4: USB with ethernet port, and win98 driver (most dont)

or get a real PC> from Goodwill for like $10 ,
or 2010 and newer PC of any kind from anyplace.
get one with W7 and newer OS for full support.
this thing you have is like finding parts for a Dueseberg car.

these old laptops are seen in garage sales for $1
due to the lack of support. and the fact that putting say
a new HDD is 100x more.

USB ports conduct power but do not let attachment (eg mouse) work.

Since you know you have power and I am assuming none of the USB connectors pins are broken or shorted then what is happening is that another driver is stepping on the USB driver. Check Device Manager for erros. If none then at the run prompt type SFC/scannow. Have your original operating system disk ready because if it finds problems it will need to install the corrections. The original disk IS NOT the recovery disk (this won't work). If this does not correct the problem the operating system needs to be repaired. Email me for further info.

From a computer that has internet access, download the appropriate ethernet driver for your network card from the link above. As for the recovery disk, you'll have to contact Gateway for a replacement disk.
