Question about Televison & Video
Tv went out prematurely. had to have repair work done. want to send in bills and request for payment on those bills. repairman agrees with me.
Purchased at local Costco approx. Sept of 2005. Set mfg'd Dec. 2004.
OK, I feel your pain and frustration as well. Things should just work better than they do sometimes. I recently had a similar issue with a dishwasher after only 5 years - the first one lasted 35 years - what gives.
Anyway, this is a relationship play. I've been in this business for years so here's the best shot and what I would do.
#1 - Write a polite letter expressing your frustration to Jim Sinegal - CEO of Costco. He is a very exemplary man with much interests to his company and customers. He will respond, I guarantee it. Include in this letter how you chose Costco for quality products and this premature failure was outside of your bounds for reasonableness. Ask him, don't tell him, if there is anything Costco can do to help you get this repaired, include the basic value you are looking for or other remedies that may work for you. Also ask Jim to help you make contact with the manufacturers representative for the brand of TV that you purchased. With a referral from someone like Jim, you'll get some attention.
#2 - Write a similar polite letter to the CEO of the manufacturer of the TV you purchased. Explain how this experience has changed your attitudes towards his company to the negative and that some relief in this matter would repair this perception.
In this day of double digit declining sales, retailers and/or manufacturers can't afford to not take notice of reasonable requests for product quality.
This has worked for me in the past, let me know if it works for you.
