Question about Gateway (5501582) DVD Drive

Open Question

DVD drive - incomplete writing and explorer crashes.

On Gateway MA7 laptop, the DVD drive does not complete the burn. Process is not fully done and windows explorer crashes when trying to view files on the drive. Explorer comes up with error message - DivX possible problem. Before DiVX files were written without a problem.

Please advise any solution or is the drive defunct.

SOURCE: divx greek subtitles

look in the menu and try to change the encoding, There should be 3 options, Unicode, Cyrilic & Greek. Select greek if the .sub or .srt file is in ANSI encoding, or select Unicode if the file is in UTF-8 or Unicode encoding.

To find out the encoding of an .srt file the simpliest thing to do is open them with notepad and got to "File" -> "Save as", The encoding should appear in the bottom of the dialog.

SOURCE: jvc kw-avx800 divx upgrade

go to ur settings. you will find a divx code. with that code you have to log on to the internet and sign up. with that code you enter it (following the instructions) then you will recieve the update, with that update it will ask you to save it to disc or removable storage device. once saved, plug it into ur jvx deck and it should update automatically.

Dear Shah ji,
I think Sony Service Center in UK can upgrade your DAV-DZ260 to play DivX files.
I live in Pakistan and can upgrade firmware if required.

SOURCE: my technika dvd player says

goto the free site xvid and download free the software. in it is a bit of software that converts divx to xvid. this may work. trying it as it's free and the software will not do anything to the film converted just the header. as the images is the same. the header changes the postion of sound first to second and image first to second. so that it is in xvid . i.e why do you think xvid is divx backwards. nice one

Burnt dvds read as blank. Sometimes work, but usually don't. can go either way with the same dvd at different times. It can and has happened with purchased cd and dvd. Though less likely.

Your Dvd drive is bad, it is not getting the data to burn, the laser that does the writing isn't writing the data to the disc. and option B is also depending on what program you are using to burn the dvd's and cd and following the correct steps. If all is good and you followed the right steps to it, then you need to replace your dvd/cd drive,

Ca't read any cd, dvd anymore

try running the fix-tool provided by Microsoft on this web page

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems

If that fails then my suspicion is that either
1) the drive has failed
or more likely
2) because you don't have any DVD burning software, windows can't understand the blank DVD-RW disk. This basic packet-burning software installed with XP CANNOT write to DVD disks.

However there is a bit more to it than that - the Microsoft CD burning software (which is a cut down Roxio product) cannot co-exist with any other packet burning software (e.g. DLA, In-CD or simuilar) so if one of those is installed you have to DISABLE the MS CD burning capability on the drive settings tab. Even worse, Internet Explorer 8 is not compatible with DLA - which is included in quite a few CD/DVD suites including many of the later Roxio versions

My advice would be
1) un-install any CD or DVD burning software on the machine
2) disable the MS CD burning
3) run that Microsoft patch
4) Install some DVD burning software but DON'T install the packet writing software part of it

Note that after installing that patch you may also have to reinstall any DVD playing software

The dvd is not working, only the cd is working well.

Many older drives will read and write CDs, but only read DVDs. Windows XP does not natively support DVD burning - you will need to use 3rd party software.

Which dvd disks do I buy to burn a dvd on my optiarc dvd rw ad 7563a ATA Can I add later batches of pictures? can I reuse the DVD disks?

DVD media has several types:

* DVD-R ("write-once-read-many")
* DVD+R ("write-once-read-many")
* DVD-RW ("write/erase/rewritable")
* DVD+RW ("write/erase/rewritable")
* DVD dual-layer ("write-once-read-many")

Some CD/DVD-writing software allows multiple "sessions" (write a bunch of files, do not "close" the disk, much later write a bunch of files), so that you can "add" files to an "open" ("non-closed") CD/DVD disk.

I have a gateway pc with a DVD burner but when I try to burn a DVD, it tell me to insert blank media. When I place a blank DVD into burner it still does not burn. What is the problem?

When you put in a DVD, go to explorer and right click on the CD/DVD drive letter (usually it is E:) and click on Properties.
If it shows that the disk is 100% full, then you are using the wrong type of DVDs. Your drive may only be able to read either DVD+ or DVD-.

Dvd burner not working

It sounds like the DVD burner does not have a "write strategy" for the type of disc you are using. This results in the burner and the software having an endless argument about how to go about the burn!
You can either use another brand of disc more compatible with your burner or go to the DVD burner's manufacturer's website and check for "Firmware" updates.
The firmware is the software within the drive that establishes the write strategy for each type of disc and these are often updated.
If you do update the firmware then be sure to read the instructions on the manufacturers website carefully and follow them EXACTLY.
