Displays gone on CDJ800

I have a CDJ-800. It powers up, and plays CDs with no problem (jog wheel, all buttons, etc. are fine), but both the track display and the display in the middle of the jog wheel are gone. Can I fix it myself?
Cheers

    Thanks CDJ repairs,
I appreciate the response. I live in Japan so it'd probably be easier just to send it directly to Pioneer. Again, thanks for your help.
    Cheers

I checked if the displays are getting power, and when i start the cdj in the dark i can see the orange glow wire's on both displays, ...

    what else could cause this??

  • hotheatt Dec 30, 2008

Well, i have exactly the same problem.

And the bigger problem is, i rent the cdj from a guy.
It would take a lot of cash if i send it to pioneer i think. Or could it be not?
Damn, i can't face the rental guy!!
Is there some DIY solutions that can help??
    Please2..

Both display's gone too! Tested and all voltages around the display driver chip seem ok. Any further suggestions anyone?

Hi,

It sounds like a power supply to the both display pcb's is missing, unfortuanetly i wouldnt recommend attempting to fix this yourself, if you havent had it repaired then you can send it to us.

Regards.

800 mk 1 plays in cd mode but once vinyl button is pressed play stops. even if I press the play button. The unit still jogs fwd and back just fine in vinyl. The case i use on occasion puts pressure(maybe...

You are almost certainly correct re "pressure switches"
Pioneer call this part "sheet switch" and it is a circular plastic "sandwich" of multiple contacts and when constant pressure is put on it, it tends to stick together giving the effect you are pressing it when you're not.
The part will cost you about £30.00 + fitting - unless you are confident enough to do it yourself

Pioneer cdj 800 mk2 playing mp3s, jogwheel & screen dont work

More than likely the contact pad (aka Membrane pad) is probably damaged... or the flat cable which connects to the main processor, might be loose, or damaged.

You'll need to get this professionally checked out by a qualified technician. It's not an easy fix.

Can you help me

Sounds like you have a broken Sheet Switch. Basically, there is a circular piece of plastic which goes underneath the jog wheel, so that when you press the wheel, it activates the switch and stops the track / slows it down, and also puts the indicator on in the middle of the wheel. The part is readily available from Pioneer, and is a bit of a tricky fit, however is not the hardest thing to fit on the unit. However, it is the most fragile part of the player, and most common to fail if the unit has had physical trauma, eg dropping, spillage etc.

Player jumps back to previous track for no reason

Have you tried cleaning the lens out? Invest in a good quality CD cleaner. IF this does not solve your problem, then you more than likely have damage to the reader, and will need to be replaced.

The part can be found here: PIONEER CDJ PART

CDJ800 vinyl modus

Hi Mate

My last post was a CDJ with a separate fault, causing a similar type fault.

99% of the time, this particular fault is the Flac switch under the platter jog wheel, take the jog wheel apart clean the plastic strip that runs around the jog wheel, the one with rubber feet that activates as a pressure switch.

Often there is air bubbles, liquid, condensation in between the two layers - causing it to stay in touch mode. If that doesn't fix it then you need to replace that strip (pressure switch). They are about £30 quid.

All the best and good luck

Cdj800 jog wheel stops working after 45mins

The drive motor on this unit is probably about to die, or the contact pad underneath the platter is damaged. In either case, you'll have to take it to a qualified service technician for diagnosis and repair.
