the tv got dust when placed out say u need to clean the inside of the light engine, the lamp too but be careful u must use only methylated spirit with a new soft dry bristle brush caution if u touch the lamp with your hands u will shorten its life. the color wheel inside the light engine needs to be cleaned the same way too make sure u do not spill any thing in the components and of course the tv must be off nand left to dry before restarting
you probably have a little of both. the shutting off is definately heat related but could be too much dust on heatsinks, etc causing it to shutdown. cleaning may eliminate problem but could be a sign of an underlying issue..
the dust can really cause the picture to dim. most of these tvs you can pull the "lightbox" or guts out of the cabinet to clean all 3 lenses, and clean the mirror if needed. don't mess with the screens except cleaning the front from outside. usually a 1/4" driver will be all you need, and a soft cloth for the lenses. use compressed air or a vacuum to clean out dust which will help with cooling, but the picture is only effected by dust on lenses, mirror, and screens.
Sounds like you need to clean the lenses and reflective area inside your set. It is easy and all you need is a screwdriver, windex and a paper towel. UNPLUG YOUR TV. Take off your screen and screen protector and safely set them aside. Clean only the lenses ( glass part) and the reflective mirror type area on the top of the inside of your set. It will look like new. You need to do this at least once a year.
On each side of the set is a round access panel.
Remove the oblong style cover to get to the screw that holds the round door on.
You should have access through the hole once the hole cover is removed.
Don't spray anything inside and cleaning should be done with a dry soft cloth.
