More than likely it could be just dirty or you should replace the drive they are easy to replace one can be found at any electronic store or you could try using pricewatch.com to find a cheap one replace the drive. try blasting some air in the drawer also double check to see if your ribbon cable or power cable has come loose

When I load a cd in my Stanton C324 it reads "No

Hello

Clean your CDs before and after playing them. Although the compact disc has a much longer lifespan than does something like a cassette tape, it can be more fragile. Scratches, dust or other damage to the data side of the CD will cause many CD players to fail to read the CD or cause the CD to skip.

Examine the type and format of the compact disc if your CD player fails to read it. Verify that your CD player can read the type of CD and the files contained on it. Just because you've burned a collection of songs to a CD, for example, doesn't mean that your CD player will be able to recognize that information. You must burn CDs in a specially formatted "Audio CD" mode to play them on a CD player, or your CD player must be able to recognize the MP3 file format. Some CD players have limitations on the type of CD they can read. Verify that your CD player can read CD-R, CD+R, CD-RW or CD+RW compact discs.

Update your CD player's driver, if your CD player is a drive connected to your computer. Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Click on "Hardware and Sound" and select "Device Manager" under "Devices and Printers." Right-click the icon for your CD drive and select "Update driver software." This may solve any issues the drive was having with playing CDs.

Hello Can anyone help me. I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 laptop and quite often it wont find the cd/dvd rom drive. Usually if I restart it, it works ok, but sometimes I have to restart it several times....

on mine, i sometimes accidently "safely remove hardware" for the drive and then it doesn't read or even open the drive automatically. that might be your problem.

Hp DVD Writer 300n forgot it was a DVD drive

Okay, this problem is easy.

First of all, check to see what type of media the drive supports in DVD. Is it +R or -R.
Next, not all BIOSes recognize DVD drives. From the picture you displayed there, it looked like a laptop DVD drive.

Make sure that the BIOS does support it by going to the manufacturer's website and look at the replacement parts.

If it does support this type of drive, but not from the initial product, you may need to upgrade the BIOS so it can recognize the drive.

This should solve your problem.

Dvd rom not reading cds/dvds

I had similar problem on a Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop, I simply had to reconnect DVD drive. It usually loosing it's connection with motherboard and drive is visible in My Computer but it doesn't recognize any discs. If reconnection does not solve your issue you may try to update your DVD firmware and if it won't help replace DVD drive. Good Luck!

My Lite On DVDRW will not recognize any audio cd's...

Hi PhxROcker,

In these drives there are two lasers and two pick-up sensors. Normally in a combined head. One set is used for the DVD and the other is used for the CD. From you description it sounds like the optical sensor for the CD laser has expired! When you place a CD into the drive a small amount of information is read by the drive that identifies the disc type, manufacturer, it's status, capacity etc. If the drive cannot read this then it thinks nothing is present.

If you insert a disc does the LED on the front the the unit flash a few times while it spins the disc. Does it do this repeatedly? If it fails to read the disc does the LED stop blinking and the drive no longer spins the disc? If this is the case then your drive may indeed be faulty.

Sorry I could not be of any further assistance.

Regards,

Spare head 2.
