Question about AEG S72348KA ST STEEL Refrigerator

3 Answers

Tripped earth leakage, i made sure element in freezer was secure, had trouble once before, tried fridge again ,light came on but no sign of fridge kicking in.i just nned to know whether it is serious or an easy fix. Don't live close to repairers. Regards Evan We have the same problem with our AEG Santo 72348. Firstly a mouse(!) crawled up into the PC board and blew the whole thing. We struggled to find a repairer here in Australia and eventually shipped the parts in from South Africa. We found someone to repair the fridge for us but when we got it back the moment we plugged it in the tripped the earth leakage on the house. The repairer cannot find the problem and his solution is to just "lay a new dedicated cable from the distribution board for the fridge". That's no solution for me. PLEASE has someone got any ideas?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, let's review the basics:

  • tripped earth leakage - is a protection system more sensitive that the standard breakers. It measure if the current coming in is equal to the current coming out of circuit. If not then it will assume that a small part of the current does not flow out the other wire but rather "leaks" to the ground/earth.
  • light came on...no sign of fridge kicking in - either the logic controller board is faulty or the compressor/starting capacitor (if used) is faulty.
The easiest way to test for an earth leakage fault in your refrigerator is to unplug the unit, use a DVM or VOM set to the highest resistance range of X100 and test both the prongs of the AC plug against the exposed metal part of the body of the refrigerator. In an ideal world, there should be none. Since the logic controller board may be using relays to switch on other components in the refrigerator, it might be to your advantage to do the same with the different wirings/components internal to the unit. Pls pay special focus on the compressor motor and the starting capacitor (if one is used), the transformer that supplies the power for the logic controller and all others.

The general idea is that none of the wirings in and out should have a resistance reading/connection to the body of the refrigerator or to be more exact, any metal part that the user can and may touch.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

First check wiring of your Refrigerator, may be there is problem of wiring. Also check that there is a power booster condenser on the Refrigerator back side is working properly or not.

Itjust sounds like a stuck or broken switch& look on inside of door to see if stuck before you change it ..and no this is not going to affect the unit at all

How do i fix my lg multi flow fridge/freezer that trips the earth leakage all the time

It may be possible the defrost heater is shorting to earth or ground. This would trip the GFI every time the refrigerator went into defrost. It also is possible that water has infiltrated the insulation and causing a leakage current. This would be much harder to fix.

Westinghouse 410l fridge trips new RCD's in fusebox

Tripping an earth leakage would indicate a break down of insulation in the windings of the compressor, the possibility of a short circuit in the wiring system or the defrost element down to earth. I recommend you have a certified technician check it out before you have a fire. If the Hoover is in good condition there is no reason not to replace it. Rate me please.

It sounds like the defrost element is faulty and is causing a leakage to earth when the unit comes onto defrost cycle. Check the defrost element in the freezer compartment behind a panel cover.

Fridge keeps tripping electricity

I assume by "earth leakage" you mean it is on a GFI circuit? Some older GFI outlets are sensitive to and do not work well with motors or other inductive loads like your refridgerator compressor. As for the compressor feeling hot, this is usually normal.

If this is a GFI outlet, try replacing it with new unit. If it is a GFI breaker, try replacing that.

Suddenly tripped off house

Hi akula, 200 ks to a fridgie, LG appliance, you must be in Australia;) Is it the earth leakage circuit breaker operating. If so, then you have a leakage problem to earth from the heater pad(not quite sure what that is, but this problem will need to be repaired. Am doing some research to see if there is anything that can be done without just getting a new fridge. Back to you soon.

Graeme
