Your needle valve is stuck open, what happens is the needle can get gummed up and it will stick open allowing the fuel to continue to flow instead of shutting it off, let me try to explain this in simple terms (not saying your an idiot or anything) look at it like the tank in your toilet, when you push the lever down the valve is opened and all the water goes out and when it gets to a point of no more water the valve shuts allowing water to go back in the tank, the ball in the tank will allow the water to only fill it back up to a certian point and then the water shuts off, so if the ball wasn't there the water would continue to flow until it started to pour out, the ball in your tank represents the floater inside the carb bowel and the needle is like a sensor telling it to shut off but if the needle gets stuck it will continue to flow, what you will need to do is take the carb off, then take the bowl off the bottom, push up on the floater and see if the needle does not drop back down or if you feel any resistants, if it does stick or you do feel some resistants then you will have to carefully remove the floater and pull the needle out, and you will have to clean the needle very carefully, also check to see if there is any debri in the float bowl, if you have never messed with a carb before it might be best to take it to a motorcycle shop and have them do it because you can really mess these things up (been there, done that a few times) another reminder, if you are not going to be using it for a while just go ahead and shut the fuel off, this will also help

I have a toro z150 that won't start . I can poor gas into the carb and it will fire but stop.. Like its not getting any gas.. I have ran out ta stuff to look at..

Hi Kelly, Seems like the problem is needle stuck in seat, The needle and seat let the gas into the bottom of the carby and as the gas rises in the bottom of the carby the float rises as well pushing the needle up into the seat slowing the gas flow into the bottom of the carby.... As the motor's using the gas in the bottom of the carby the float's lowering and the needle lowers as well allowing more gas into the bottom of the carby, If a needle's stuck inside the seat NO gas(petrol)will be let into the bottom of the carby. Sign of a needle stuck inside the seat is unscrew the bottom of the carby from the top and if NO gas(petrol) in bottom then it's stuck, Pull needle out from seat with fingers and spray up seat with a carby cleaner and wipe needle as well, Replace needle and push needle up and down with float to check it freely slides again.... I hope you know what I mean... CHEERS..

Whats making carb flood with gas after bike is started and runs just a min or so then gas runs out carb over flow hose. I have replaced carb float and jets are all clean.

Hi Paige, Seems like the problem is where the float and needle meet, The needle and seat let the gas into the bottom of the carby and as the gas rises the float rises as well pushing the needle up into the seat slowing the gas flow into the bottom of the carby.... As the motor's using the gas in the bottom of the carby the float's lowering and the needle lowers as well allowing gas into the carby, If the part of the float that meets the needle is bent down slightly it's going to let more gas into the bottom of the carb because it's not pushing the needle up when it should, YOU NEED TO BEND THAT PART OF THE FLOAT UP SLIGHTLY TO STOP THE GAS COMING OUT THE OVERFLOW.... I hope you know what I mean....CHEERS..

Hi i have a 1997 xvz 1300 and itis leaking fuel from the carby overflow when running

Add a good amount of Berryman Chemtool to the gas (half a can is OK, an engine will actually run off straight Chemtool) and run it for 3 to 5 minutes then shut it off. Let it sit overnight. Start it up the next day and take it for a ride, running it for 15 minutes and check to see if it has stopped overflowing. Should have cleaned it out. If this does the trick, get some Marvel Mystery Oil and add the proper amount each time you gas up. That will keep it clean and free of deposits.

There is petrol leaking from the overflow on my zxr 400, should this overflow be connected to anything else via tube ....?

No, the overflow tube should dump the fuel out the bottom of the bike.

Possible solutions (?): 1: Don't over fill the tank. 2: Check for corrosion in the tank overflow tube.

My carburetor is leaking lots of fuel out of two different overflow hoses. would the float be stuck?

There are a couple of things that could be wrong.
The fuel shutoff valve in the carby could have something under it which stops it from closing.

A problem I had once, I had a souped up bike (250cc) and because I did not upgrade the fuel tap etc I wore holes in the bottom of the floats.

Did you have the carby in pieces?
If you did you might have left the fuel shutoff valve out.
