No HDD Found on initial XP Install

Ok...what I have is this: New system build, using a Mach Speed MSNV-939 mobo, AMD 64 4800 cpu, WD 250G SATA, Ultra 1G PC3200 DDR 400 Mhz (x2), 450 W Case...Problem is this: During XP Pro install...makes it to the point of showing the hard drive to install to but shows "No Disk Installed" on screen. When i press enter, C or D...it Blue Screens on me giving a 'setupdd.sys' file error. I have the SATA driver disk and loaded the two drivers...I have the SATA data cable, SATA power and legacy power connected. I have even disconnected Legacy power...tried different cables, configuring differently, different SATA disks, different XP disks...nothing!?! Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah...guys...thanks for the comments...but I have already installed the SATA (Raid) drivers. I used the ones from the mobo CD...and I went out and grabbed some newer ones from both the Mach Speed site and the nVidia site. they all load off the floppy just fine...but then XP loads some more files and brings you to the next screen where you hit ENTER and then the Agreement screen where you hit F8...then the very next screen it shows no HD installed. I checked the bios...the drive shows up in any of the 4 SATA slots available that I plug it in to...its listed as the first boot drive...I'm beginning to think I have a bad HD...I just took it and connected it on another system which is already running XP, SATA HD, etc...and it doesn't recognize it there either???

    More thoughts??

    Thanks again!!!

I googled this setupdd.sys' file error, and it seems to be a hardware incompatibility, not limited to PCI or memory issues. Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330181 What is the exact error message?

On my board the SATA ports are mislabled. SATA4 was really SATA1, SATA3 = SATA2, etc. Watch what driver show up in the post screens.

Yeah it sounds the sata disk, ie when you restart the pc, it starts booting off the windows disk, you need to keep pressing F6 it will then appear a screen asking you to put in the floppy disk with the sata drivers for your motherboard, if you dont have the floppy disk, if you browse the Motherboard CD that you got with the board, you should find a sata folder with a little utility to make a floppy disk with the drivers on it.. All the best John

Did you insert the sata driver disks when prompted in the first stages of installation? I think it's mentioned as scsi drivers.

I can't get Vista Ultimate set up to recognize my WD 1TB HDD in a new build. Is this a software problem or problem with the HDD. I get the short beep at BIOS start up so I don't think its with the...

Few steps to check your harddisk status on the motherboard would resolve this issue. Checkin to the cmos setup and look for the detection of the HDD and the size it shows once you have done a formating.

Vista 64 bit shows issues at times while installing a new SATA 1TB HDD. Check if the 1TB HDD is installed on to SATA 0.

Use a WD Disk Manager and format the HDD initially and then try install Vista on to it. Else if this doesnt work on the system, Put the HD on to another working system and Format it with NTFS File system and try installing Vista.. You will be successful. Good Luck.

No boot on start up all fans start but no video

I had same problem!
I figured there was something wrong with my memory because that is what the manual says the constant beeps mean.
I bought a new PNY memory stick 1 gb DDR and got the same beeps when i put it in.
So being totally disappointed I tried putting the Stick in the #3 DIMM. I booted up and IT WORKED!
I have not called tech support or tried both 1 & 3 DIMM together but I will try after I set up the rest of my computer.

Hdd problem

it's not often you need to use cable select, but if you have had to use cable select on one of your drives, your other drive would have to use cable select, but you may need to check in the bios F2 or Del on start up and in the list of drives you should be able to press f12 or similair to auto identify the drives, then save and exit.

I assume you have tried with only one stick of ram individually at a time if you are using two to check it's not the ram as one faulty can cause the system to stop. Also assuming you bought the ram from the same place and is compatible with the board. Sometimes people also forget that the processor in some cases has to be powered by the 4 pin plug from the PSU and not just from the ZIF socket that older processors use to power up, so double check the manual. The other main common cause of the this problem is when you are putting together all the hardware onto the board, if you don't protect it underneath it may have overflexed the board and shorted or damaged the circuitry or the bios chip. That's not to say that the motherboard was'nt faulty in the first place.

Maybe a silly question to ask; but did you connect the processor power lead, as unlike some processors this needs a seperate supply.
