SOURCE: Black Screen and Scroll Problem

You're either having a spreading corrosion problem from the water, or it's not all dry in there and it's spreading, and the conductivity of the water is screwing up the circuits. Open the camera as much as you're willing to risk it, and you're going to have to take a chance either way - either you take it apart, expose the boards, and every separate part with some distilled(non conductive) water (if you just dip the whole thing you'll have water caught in places) then put in an airing cupboard to dry for a week, thus taking the chance of causing more damage by not being able to reassemble it properly, or by causing more water damage, or you have another option of just opening all compartments -cards, battery - taking everything out and leaving it to dry, hoping that it will be enough. The chance you're taking here is that it's really a corrosion problem and you'll be helping it set it. If you don't like both option take it to a repair shop. Good luck

SOURCE: how to fix digital camera canon ixus 70 'lens

Would not recommend opening the camera as the chances are much greater for you causing greater damage. BUT would instead recommend that you try the seven sequential repair step outlined for a lens error in the below listed Related Link "Fixing a Lens Error on a Digital Camera". None of the steps outlined in this link involve opening the camera. and reportedly you should have close to a 50% chance of success with these techniques.

If you cannot repair the lens yourself with the first related link, then consider trying the two 'Digital camera repair" links below for two online digital camera repair businesses.

SOURCE: how to restart Canon IXUS 70

Your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, chances are that your batteries need to be replaced because they are just too worn to properly power the camera. And then, of course, there's the possibility that your camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

The IXUS 70 is called the SD1000 in some parts of the world. You can download manuals and more for the SD1000 from the manufacturer's web site at
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd1000#BrochuresAndManuals

Full details are in the "Shooting Panoramic images" section of the Advanced User Guide (page 44 in my copy).

DSC-55 camera flash doesn't work even though in Flash "Auto" setting in Easy or 'i' mode.

If the Forced flash setting is already enabled and the flash is still not working, then the issue may be due to another camera setting. Even if the Forced flash setting is enabled, the flash will still not work in the following circumstances:

  1. When shooting MPEG movies
  2. When shooting in the Twilight or Handheld Twilight mode
  3. If shooting with the Burst or Multi Burst mode
  4. Shooting with Sweep Panorama
  5. Shooting with the Fireworks or High Sensitivity mode.
  6. If an external flash is connected.

Please make sure that the Camera is not set to any of these modes. You can check the manual to get the information to change the setting..

  • If the issue persists, please reset the Camera and make sure that battery is fully charged.
  • If the issue persists after performing all the above-mentioned troubleshooting steps, service is required.

Thanks for understanding.

My flash simply will not work. I have a hard time getting a photo when the flash is needed because it won't allow me to shoot. I select 'no flash' and I get a photo but poor quality. Thank you!

How do you use the continuous shoot function on canon ixus 70?

These instructions are for the IXUS 70, even though the category is PowerShot SD500/IXUS 700.

1. Press the down arrow (bottom of main control button)
2. Press the up or down button until you see the icon for continuous shooting, which looks like three squares overlaid on each other.
3. Shoot your pictures. As long as you keep the shutter button depressed, the camera will continue to shoot until the memory card is full.

To return to single frame shooting, follow steps 1. and 2. but select the single square in step 2.
