Re: Hrad Disk Crash

I dont think theres any way to repair it with that fault except sending it back to toshiba, if you ask them they can retieve the data but they charge you. i have done that before for customers. If its the board on the hard drive you could try and get the same model off ebay cheap and replace it but with the motor you would have to send it back to toshiba All the best John

My 120 Gb seagate Sata harddisk got fired due to high voltage shock. What can i do. Is there any way i can reapair it. Is there any way i can replace the logic board of it with 80 Gb board and try.

I understand the value of the files that resides on the disk:) Yes! It is possible that harddisk may back to life by replacing the logic board but of the same model or part number. If it is not possible by replacing logic board due to other defects such as head crash and spindle drive motor opened/shorted, there still a big chance to recover depending how you value the data on it by contacting international Seagate Data Recovery support service with considerable service fee. Hope this helps.

Smart failure predicted on hard disk 0:TOSHIBA MK4025GAS-(PM) warning :immediately back-uo your data and replace your hard disk draiver A failure may be imminent

It means that your hard drive is going to crash soon. If all of your important stuff is on there and you don't have an external hard driver or flash driver, shut down the computer until you do. Once you own another hard drive, boot back up and start the backing up process. There is a fantastic free backup program available here:

One trick I've found that works is placing the hard drive in a refrigerator for 30 mins before using it. This will extend it's life by at least 15 minutes.
Good luck to you, and pleas leave me a positive rating! :)

Hi, my Sony Vaio starts with message about upcoming hard drive crash. The HD is however Toshiba's, MK8025GAS-(PM). Is that possible? My laptop is 4 years old. Thanks

It is possible that the hard drive is not Sony brand hard drive as they do not manufacture there own hard drives. As for the message that you are getting it is because the hard drive is failing over to many sectors. With the drive being 4 years old this would be just the drive wearing out. So I would recommend you back up your data ASAP and replace the hard drive. You should be able to replaces it with the same type of drive. You just need to know if you need a PATA or SATA drive. The link below will help you figure that out.

A hrad disk that makes noise is not a good sign. try the device on another PC. if its the same you might have a disk failuer or a disk that is on its way to crash. sorry

Toshiba hdd2171 has failed (no boot, very bad sounds coming from hard drive) any ideas what I can replace it with? Appears to be 2.5 inch, IDE 40gb, can i replace it with another toshiba ide hard drive,...

Yes, you can replace it with another Toshiba hdd 80GB or 120 GB. It doesn't have to be a Toshiba HDD. It can be any HDD that has an IDE interface for the ribbon cable to plug into. I prefer Western Digital hard drives myself, but Toshiba does make very good hard drives as well. There are several name brand HDDs out there. Just make sure you go with a name that you trust, I don't suggest going with some off-the-wall brand for a HDD. I've tried some "No Name" HDDs before and they have all failed within a 1-2 year period. You don't want to take the risk of an HDD crash and losing your data again within the next year.

My computer is not recognizing my passport essential and the passport is making a clicking noise

The drive had a Head Crash. You could try Data Recovery Software in order to recover important data, but other than that it is useless for further use.

WD External drive not recognized on computer

If the drive was running when it fell, and it doesn't have a head locking mechanism (or was in mid-read, or mid-write and the head wasn't locked down) then your disk may have experienced a head crash. The read/write heads float over the surface of the disk. If they slam into the disk, they will make a divot, boucne, make another divot, and continue bouncing until the kenetic energy is dissipated. In the places where magnetic material is removed, you won't get any data back. You may be able to recover data elsewhere, using a recovery company, but it won't be cheap. If your data is critical, you have a good chance of recovery using a service such as Seagate Recovery They recover data from all brands and I have used them They're very good, but very expensive ($800 range)
