Hot tub pump will not run. Pump makes a click noise and hums but will not run, could this be a start capacitor gone bad

I have exactly the same problem and was wondering the same thing about the capacitor. Do you know if the capacitor is to start the pump or is it just for interferance?

This can be one of three issues.
1.  Starting capacitor as you have suggested.  You can take the capacitor to a motor shop and have it tested or test it yourself if you have a meter that will check capacitance. 2.  Low/High voltage.  If the voltage is not at the proper levels (10% up or down) then the unit may have a hard time starting. 3.  Something might be binding up the impeller.  Disconnect the power and carefully check to see if the shaft of the motor spins freely. 4.  A short in the windings.  If none of these seem to be the problem, then you will probably need to replace the motor.

Pump makes a humming sound but will not run

Don't run it hot or it will stop working.
Sounds like start capacitor has gone bad.

I have an aqua flow master 3.8 hp xp2 pump in my hot tub, it sounds like it is receiving power as it is clicking on but it will not start. have i fried the motor? the shaft turns ok but nothing is...

Many of these pump motors have a capacitor and start & run windings. I had a pump motor a week ago that was free to rotate, but only hummed. I looked inside the back end, everything looked good, I bought a capacitor online for $7 + $15 shipping, installed it and it worked. The capacitor will have voltage & rating on the side.
BE CAREFUL, CAPACITORS KEEP VOLTAGE EVEN WHEN NOT PLUGGED IN. If you don't know how to handle them, take the motor to a local motor repair shop.

Pump hums but is not pumping the water.

you either have a problem with a suction side air leak, a bad start capacitor, or bad bearings.

Start with trying to prime it by adding water to the hair/lint pot. If it doesn't move any water and it acts like the motor is not turning, it's most likely a start capacitor. The pump would have been making alot of noise before the bearing would have been bad enough to seize.

I turned the pump on and it is making a humming noise but is not working

the most common problem for the symptoms you describe is a bad start capacitor. There should be a hump on the motor. Remove the two screws that attach it and replace the capacitor inside with an exact match. If it has a start/run capacitor, it may located under the end cover of the motor.

I have a St. Maarten tub and the #1 pump does will

the problem with the pump #1 sounds like a capacitor, unless the bearings have seized, it's the start/run capacitor or possibly the inner switch but that is not as common. Humming and then turning off is textbook sign of a bad capacitor or seized bearings, if the pump has not been running loud or whining, it definitely the cap.

Pump makes clicking noise when powered up ?

Clicking?... not knowing which clicking noise you are hearing, I will run down the most likely on a new pump.
1. When wiring the motor you may have left a wire in close proximity to the centrifical start capacitor switch. It spins at high RPMs and can be hitting a wire not properly tucked in
2. Most pool pumps are dual voltage. If you wired motor for wrong voltage than that being delivered, the motors can sometimes make noises. Clicking isn't most common, but the vibrating hum of incorrect voltage might be interpreted as a clicking noise.
3.check to make sure no wire ties, or plastic stringy tag holding devices were left in the pump intake basket.

Qca hot tub pump not turning on

if the pump is a 240volt maybe a blown fuse. If you turn the tub on and hear the pump make a low hum it prob. is a bad pump remove and replace. you really need a multimeter to check to c if your getting power to pump. if you send me a email i could walk you through testing the pump and control box.
