Question about Maytag MSD2734GE Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My freezer works fine, however my fridge is not cold. It seems as there is no air flow in the fridge. I have checked behind the crispers to ensure nothing is blocked. I have a Maytag msd2734ge, wide by side, and it is about 5 years old. I also blew out the coil in the back to check that off the list.

    Hi and welcome to FixYa,

It would seem that you posted twice.

    Initially, this normally would point
to the fan not spinning. The function of the fan is to draw the cold
air from the freezer and force it through the vents to the refrigerator
area. Even having said this, the fan is activated by the logic
controller based on the the thermostat setting of the refrigerator and
condition of the door (it must be closed).

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Check in the freezer side and look at the back wall and see if there is any build up of frost, your coil may be block, so no air flowing through the coil, your unit may not defrosting, you need to check the defrost heater, the defrost timer or the defrost thermostat one of these part can be defective

Why are only drawers in fridge cold & not making ice?

Contact a professional. Sounds like either your damper door is not operating correctly and not letting enough cool air from the freezer enter, or there is an air leak that is making ice form .

My Kenmore side by side is fine, except for freezing everything in the crisper drawers.

The coldest place in your fridge is in the crisper drawers, manufactures know this and they even put heaters under the floor of your fridge to try to heat it up a bit in there, if you set your freezer temperture to low there will be less cold air current that flows into your fridge but it will flow in over a longer period of time, that air is about -22C so it will be blowing on your items in your crisper for a long time and it will probably freeze them, all very confusing and complicated but it may help to turn your controles for your freezer to a warmer setting, on the other hand if you only open your fridge a few times a day the cold air being denser will settle in the bottom of the fridge and freeze the crisper area, not much you can do about this, except eat more food... :-)

Freezer is working fine. Bottom Control for Crispers working fine. Upper section of fridge not getting cold.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

I have a side by side double door fridge. My freezer is cold and working fine but my fridge side is not getting cold.

check yor damper door, it's the little door at the top and or bottom of the fridge insid near the top and or at the bottom behind the crisper drawer when working right they open to let cold air in from the freezer and warm air out. top one cold in, bottom one warm air out.they work on a sensor/relay when the freezer fan goes on they open when cold air is needed.

GE Fridge Bottom Freezer, works and temp is still warm in Fridge

On most bottom freezer models I have seen, there are vents on the bottom of the refrigerator box under the crisper that return from the refrigerator to the freezer. This allows air blown from the freezer into the refrigerator to return to freezer to be cooled again. It would seem these return ducts are clogged, it might be possible if you have had your refrigerator turned to a very cold setting. When you open the freezer door, you are letting air to be drawn in from the room to make up the air being blown into the refrigerator.

Pull out your crisper drawers and try to locate these vents. Check for debris or obstructions. If you don't see any, try letting the vents sit open for a couple hours to defrost. You could try speeding up the process by blowing through the vents with a hairdryer but I might advise against this because the hot air might deform the foam insulation if you are not very careful.

Crisper door/water line freeze problem

mar...you're box is set too cold. Use -17 C/38 F on the freezer side which is about 38F/4C on the fridge side. Use an outdoor thermometer and let it sit closed for at least a few hours. Adjust accordingly and this will work out. One adjustment is often the cold vents from the freezer into the fridge. If set too wide, too much cold air gets into the crisper and water lines.
