it is a problem that a shop will have to fix ( magnetron ) , therefore I will not be able to fix this over the internet , or get a fixya out of it , so it would be your best bet to call a shop if you think it will be worth the repair cost

Tons of people follow the basic safety rules and repair their own microwaves every year.

With a little expert assistance, it's not too hard.

When you hit Start to cook, do the inside light and turntable come on?

Is the noise a louder than usual hum or buzz?

If that's what the noise is like,
I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, a bad magnetron or possibly a bad high voltage transformer.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html (continuity can be good even though it is bad!)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/xformer.html

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Ge micowave browing oven (JES1288SH01) want heat up anything everything else work and i smell something burning when turn on

If it is louder than usual, you probably have a shorted high voltage rectifier diode.

If it's not louder than usual, you probably have a defective magnetron or high voltage transformer.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

Microwave not heating was fine then not?????

It could be an internal fuse, but these fuses are very high rated ( typically 5kv 8amp) and should be fitted by a qualified technician only.

Everything works except heat

this is something you should probably call a repair technician for, due to the danger of the componentry.

Usually in ther case of this problem, even a technician will advise you to replace the unit, in the minds of cost effectiveness and safety...

Ge microwave won't heat everything else works fine

Hello t_sumner4756,
Everything else can work perfectly fine but if it doesn't generate microwaves to heat your food than it is not working ( you knew that anyway).. Unfortunately, and in most cases when you microwave stops working in that manner..the components at fault are either the Magnetron, Filament PS or a High Voltage Capacitor..What that means is that you are probably better off just replacing the entire appliance rather than attempting to repair it. If it is a year old or less, bring it back to where you purchased it and have them replace it.. I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear but when the cost to repair exceeds the cost to replace... it just isn't worth repairing.. Plus.. there is an element of danger associated with these kinds of repairs...

Rick
