Under Printers and Faxes in Control Panel (Classic View) right click on the printer and select properties then under Printing Preferences set Draft and click OK - this will now be the default setting.

Sir are you doing it in the control panel setting? Go to control panel and set you defaults. Doing it there will do it for all programs on your computer.

Wow Pamela! You ask your question well. Good Job! Print options such as that can not be set at the printer. Changing the settings inside the application is not permanent. Follow HPs instructions here for default settings:

HP Officejet 5610 All-In-One InkJet Printer - printing any kind of document, from many formats (docs, pdf, photos) takes more than 15 minutes for one page to print. Tried restarting computer, printer,...

When you click to print something, you will get what's called the Print Dialogue box. Before clicking "OK", click the Properties button.26849353-6c28-4abb-ab9c-b5e445a1b08b.jpgThis will take you to a screen with some tabs. Click on the Paper/Quality tab. Somewhere in that window you will see some options for "Print Quality".

By default, it is probably set to "Normal". That's the middle setting. To save ink, you can set it to Fast Normal (better for ink saving) or Fast Draft (best for ink saving). This means the printer will use less ink to print the page. The final copy will look a little lighter but certainly still readable.

This option "fast draft" will print very fast and also save your ink.

Printer claims ink cartridge is expired and won't let me print

Hello, if you change the date on your computer to 3 months previous (say), then reboot, you can probably overcome this temporarily. Obviously, for normal operation it's best to restore the date to current, and only set the date back when you want to print something.Regards,nicam49

How can I get my HP 6500a plus printer to PERMANENTLY default to black printing? I am needlessly using too much color and the default setting is only for a single document.

Hi

Go to right click at the printer icon on your computer and choose printer properties or printing preferences and from there choose the color setting to print in black alone. Regards

I have regular plain paper for an HP 8500 and I'll get an error message saying incorrect type or size of paper.

Try setting your ink to "draft" before you print. For some reason this has worked to get my HP to accept my checks when it would not before.

My hp officejet pro L7500 wont print because im out of 'cyan' but i'm trying to print in black/white. is there a way to change a setting to allow it to print?

In a word ... no. The printer doesn't know what you want to print ... It doesn't want to disappoint you ... so it will not print because it is not ready. Make sense?
