It was working fine, then stopped in the middle of a song. Appeared to have turned off as the buttons did nothing. Tried turning it back on and it shows the OPAL logo and "Initializing..." Been displaying this for about 30 minutes. Tried plugging it back into the USB post, computer doesn't even see the device.

I only used it for about a total of 5 hrs in a two week period and it stopped working. I can barely see the opal screen b/c it's so black and it will not do anything. There used to be a time that RCA had the best products on the market. I tried to take it back to Wal-Mart b/c it had been only 18 days but they informed me that on electronics you only have 15 days to return merchandise, so I would have to send it off to RCA and have fix. I would not recommend anyone buying this mp3 player

I have a RCA m4208GR and if I turn it on it stays on initializing. I was going to try and upgrade the firmware but it won't find the mp3 player. I tried all the things that were suggested. I tried resetting the mp3 by holding the menu button but that didn't work either. I also tried to put a pin in the hole by the MIC but it didn't seem to work. Please help!! thanks

My opal M4208 MP 3 Player won't come on. If I plug it into the wall charger, blue lights come on around the directional circle. ONCE I unplug it the lights go off and nothing. I think the battery might be dead. Any help?

I have an rca opal#M4208GR-B that seems to have lost the ability to show which songs are on the menu. In fact, the entire choice for music, radio etc. has disappeared leaving only the icons such as hammer...

i have the same damn problem. On the menu screen, i don't see any words, letters and ect. I only see the icons. When I try playing the music on my opal m4208-GR, It only shows a black screen. So i don't know what too do. I tried reformatting and the firmware update. Im guessing you have too kill the battery for the whole day. Try playing the mp3 all day until the battery drains out. Hopefully it can regain memory after that.

Firmware for my rca opal m4208rd

This is a very common problem with the RCA Opal.
You need to goto the RCA website and download the latest firmware.
Download the firmware from there. Plug in your mp3 player. (don't worry if it cant be found bye the PC it will when the firmware installs)
After the mp3 player is plugged into the usb device of your pc install the newly downloaded firmware. And it should work fine.

Cant find the reset switch

If it's anything like the opal M4002 then on the back of the player there will be a small hole into which you can insert a small implement (like a toothpick) and press the reset button.
