Hello there Bill,

This takes me back many years. !!!!

It is most odd these days to find people still using Floppy Drives. Are you SURE you want a floppy disc drive ? They cannot store very much at all.

First of all, before you do anything, Open your PC and MAKE SURE you have a socket on it for a floppy drive. !!!!! If necessary get the model and make of the Motherboard and check on its manufacturers website that it has a socket.
THIS IS IMPORTANT as modern computer motherboards DO NOT provide floppy interface sockets. and you cannot run a floppy on them.

Right, the Floppy needs a 34 way cable with connectors both ends
There is no USB connection for a floppy disc drive.
If you bought a floppy and all-in-one card reader item then the usb is for the card reader and NOT for the floppy..

A picture and explanation of it are here http://pcguide.com/ref/fdd/confCable-c.html

This is what you need to buy. Dont worry it looks long at complicated, it is just that it has extra connectors .

Install the cable in to the motherboard and floppy, Your computer will recognise the floppy automatically and off you go.

Good luck

Whenever i try to import pictures from my kodak 4g sdhc card i get a prompt saying that the directory name is invalid i have over 800 pictures ad really dont want to lose them all anything i can do?

Try inserting the SD memory card into an USB memory card reader and plug it into the USB port of a working computer. This computer will see the SD memory card as an external storage device then you can open the image folder to copy the photos to your computer.
If this does not work the try the Recuva program.

Where is the insert for the floppy disc

The floppy disk may or may not be installed in section 5. They started eliminating floppy drives some years ago, when USB flash started to become popular.

FlexBay drive panel
Can contain an optional floppy drive or optional Media Card Reader. For information on using the Media Card Reader, see Using a Media Card Reader (Optional).

If your question was more basic than this, and you have a floppy drive, then you just insert the floppy into the slot. It doesn't open. Look for the arrow on the floppy disk, if it doesn't go in one way, turn it over.

Hi, your Windows XP install CD doesn't have SATA drivers for the hard drive included, so it's not able to address your hard drive. You can't disable SATA in the BIOS to make it work since your hard drive is still SATA. You'll need to get a 3.5" floppy disk and drive if your laptop doesn't have one. They make external 3.5" USB floppy drives that will work.

1. download the SATA drivers for your laptop (iastor.sys and inf)
2. copy the drivers to your floppy disk (about 6-7 files)
3. plug the floppy drive into your laptop
4. boot to the Windows XP CD
5. as soon as the installation starts, it asks you to "Press F6 to specify RAID or controller drivers" - Press F6 now
6. When setup asks for it, point it to the floppy drive
7. Installation will continue and find your SATA hard drive

Ta-da! Rock on with your bad self.

Mitsumi 7 in 1 card reader

There are two cnnections required on the back of the card reader.
One is for the Floppy drive. It is flat and wide cable.
The other is a black cable with a smaller connector. This is a USB connector that needs to be plugged into your motherboard.

These USB connections are usually near the bottom right of the motherboard where you connect the power switch and LED lights. They usually have 9 pins. See this link and loko at the third picture so see what i'm talking about.
http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/windows/2005/02/23/Build_Perfect_BudgetPC.html?page=3

If you don't have a USB connector on the motherboard.. you'll need to purchase an extension card or an adapter that will plug into a usb outlet on the front of back of your computer.

Best wishes...

Imstalling internal card reader

Well, installing an internal card reader without a spot on the motherboard, is a little hard to do. I would suggest buying an external card reader. They are a little cheaper, and a lot easier to setup and use, since they just connect to a USB port which all computers have.
