Ilo dvdr04 records but will not "finalize" disc. I

It tells me to change disc. I'm using the recommended DVD+R discs (Phillips) but it still won't finalize. I don't know how to download firmware. It keep telling me something about the file ext. and takes me to the microsoft website. I have no clue what to do there. Can you offer any suggestions please. Thanks.

This model records on slow speed discs 4x or slower R+RW+,you never finalzie RW+only R+It will also records on variable speed discs 1x-16x.Do not use 8x or 16x discs will damage laser. The laser could be dirty use commerical disc cleaner and a drop of rubbing alcohol on brushes.Try another brand of discs not all will record on this model. Also laser may be begining to fail.If thats the case you need to replace burner/loader.411s or 451s liteon burners are stock in these models.401s and 813s will also work.
You may not need to upgrade firmware If you do you can download to a CD if you have a PC.Go to iLO.com.This is for RO4 or RHDR4 not R05.Once you have firmware disc push system buttom, the word system will be circled in yellow, cue to the right, cue down to default then cue to right to the word restore, push enter it will say system will reboot.open disc tray and put in firmware disc ,cue to yes and push enter.WORD OF CAUTION DO NOT UNPLUG OR SHUT OFF WHILE IN REBOOT RESTORE MODE (it will destroy mainboard)wait till it finishes,TV screen will say when completed.when done the disc tray door will open on it's own,REMOVE FIRMWARE disc and then power off.Wait a few seconds and then push power button back on.The regular blue screen will appear.

SOURCE: My ILO DVD Recorder do not keep the Disk Inside,

If assume that it will take the disk in, and then after about 10 seconds the disk returns to the open posistion.

if this is the scenario, on these units there is a switch located in the front of the DVD drawer that usually goes bad. This switch tells the Ilo that the drawer is fully closed. You may want to check and replace that switch. I own two of these units and both of these switches went bad.

SOURCE: My DVDR04 door will not open

Try removing the top, then remove the metal plate that covers the DVD tray. After that metal plate is removed, then push door open and see if the door responds. On this unit those plates get warped somehow. If this causes the door to open, then gently bend that plate just slightly up in the middle.

Won't record on DVD+R discs.

These ilo R04 only record on 4x speed or slower, the new 8x or 16x won't work or will damage laser. The new variable speed discs work, these say 1x-16x.
Some brands of discs won't work in Ilo's.Try name brands disc like Sony, cheap brands often won't work.
Have you cleaned laser use commercial disc cleaner?Laser can be manually cleaned with a Qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol but this requires opening dvd burner. If you do this make sure electrical plug is pulled, laser will cause serious burns if you remove top while still plugged in.

Problems with iLO +R/RW DVD Recorder, DVDR05. Often says bad disc when trying to record and when trying to finalize. Often says bad disc of a recording made by the recorder.

I've had this happen with incombatible discs (only uses +R&+RW and is picky about what brands. I've successfully used Sony +R's and many brands of +RWs. I have two different models - A ZU and MU. One asks to finalize the RW's and the other doesn't.?? If I have the choice, I don't, then I can add to it later. Does it say bad disc to discs NOT created by the ILO?

Recording Fall, Invalid disk

Try using Sony +R discs. or +RW's are good, any brand as long as they are +'s. For some reason alot of +R discs brands will not work, I wait and just get Sony +R or the +RW's on sale and stock up and I have no more troubles. Mine is the 05MU. The ZU is a little strange with the RW but will still record. Hope this helps.

I purchased the DVDRo4 and its been pretty reliable so far.

These R04 are fickle, some Brands of DVD discs won't work in ILO,try another brand. Also clean laser in iLO it may be dirty, use commercial cleaning disc, put a drop of rubbing alcohol on brushes.Do not use any other chemical.
It is possible you laser is defective or starting to go.If that's the case you need to replace burner/loader.
Some dvd recorders formulate a little differently,I have made recordings in my iLo that won't work in all brands of players/recorders.

Ilo-DVDR04 recorder problems

The laser is either dirty or is starting to go.These lasers in this model usually only last two years. To clean but a commercial disc cleaner philips or Maxell work good in this model.Put a drop of rubbing alcohol on brushes this helps clean laser.I would do this every 15 hours of use .The best way to clean laser is to rub gently with a Qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol but this requires some technical knowledge for you have to open burner. If you attempt this make certain electrical plug is pulled lasers cause nasty burns.
If laser is going you can replace the burner/loader unit, this model uses a 411s or 451s Liteon burner. The 401s and 813s will also work without problem.
