No picture, sound is fine

Had my VS-5059 since early '96, never a problem before yesterday. All of a sudden in the middle of a movie last night, there was a small bright flash on the screen and then the picture went black. Sound continues to work from multiple inputs and power LED is on, but absolutely no light on the screen. Tried the hold the Input/Menu buttons for 8 seconds trick to look for an error code, no response on the power LED. What do I do next??

My Mitsubishi VS5059 50" projection TV suddenly has no video. Audio works fine from all inputs but completely black screen, not even a hint of light from any of the 3 guns. One response suggested something called a "flyback" (I have no idea what a flyback is) on the main board may be the problem, another suggested the video card might be fried. How do I find out if this is worth fixing or it's time for the scrap heap for this baby?

Any other thoughts on this out there? I'd hate to throw this set away if there is any possibility of salvaging it at a reasonable cost.

Try checking the horizontal output transistor as that is one of the most common failure parts. This is a 3-legged part attached to a heatsink close to the flyback transformer (part with large red wire coming out the top)

At this point, I would be checking the cables first. How is the dish
connected to the TV? Since the VCR works as expected, the TV video and
audio circuits are functioning. It is possible that the particular
input you are using for the Dish is bad, but lets verify the cables
first. Update this with the status of the cables and simple diagram of
    the connections you are using.

Are there any other indications at all? Blinking light? Also, are
you familiar with soldering? If so, try resoldering any connections on
the board that appear grainy or have rings.

This sounds like a broken flyback on the main board....about 70.00 for part but they will charge you about $300.00 to $500.00 in labor

The cost of repair for this problem will be around $600 min. and then there is no guarantee something else won't fail due to age and hours of operation, new LCD TV's are very cheap now, less than $1000 for a 46" wide screen, when u see the quality of the picture even in normal 480i resolution u will be amazed

I awoke this morning to find the sound on my Apex Digital LD4088 LCD tv is dead. The picture is fine, but sound is dead, how do I solve this?

Download the user manual to your TV. Clik here to download it. See whether audio options to it are set right. If all are right, check its speaker. If speaker is OK, the audio output circuit section should be troubleshooted.
If you feel any difficulty in downloading the manual, send your email address to me. I'll send a copy of it to you by return mail.

Yes I would replace it, the laser pickup assembly is showing early signs of failure, it will often play the regular dvd movies because there is less demand on the laser tracking system. The cost to replace is cheaper than repairing the unit.

You can likely buy a replacement remote here:
Remotes.com
'Universal' remotes exist only in your dreams; there is no such thing since the manufacturers cannot agree on a basic code set that would work with any set. None of them can control every function of every brand and model made.

Quasar TV sp 2724E Loses the picture

Sounds like a failed vertical amplifier circuit. This is normally primarily contained in an integrated circuit mounted on a heatsink.
There are other possibilities along the line but the one above is the most likely.
Now all you need is a TV repair shop that is still in buisness.

Push in the menu and input buttons on the set and hold them in for 8 seconds together and see if the led blinks a two digit code, then let me know what happens.

Probably has some bad solder connections in the deflection/ power supply area, if you dont know about electronics, might call a repairman and put a few hundred $ into it or junk it, also it is not HD, just FYI
