How do you replace a bcm on a 2002 impala

While driving Down the road sometimes the lights would turn off while switching from brights to dims and now we no longer have no dims at all just brights.

I had a similar problem with my 2002 chevy impala, it was the BCM Module, Costed about $680 to replace it from the dealership, the Dealership has a special tool to replace the old BCM because it has your car information and it has to be put on the new BCM.

I have a Chevy Impala 2002 and I have to change the BCM. How can I program the new BCM. What I need to reprogram the new BCM.

A new BCM HAS to be programmed by a shop with a Tech II programmer.

Several GM products, including the Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, the Oldsmobile Alero, the Pontiac Grand Prix, and Saturn Ion, have issues with the Security light coming on. This is many times an indication of a failing Body Control Module (BCM). Initially, the Security light will come on then go off, progressing to a constant on light, before the car will refuse to start. Other symptoms may include erratic action of electronics, a clicking sound coming from the glove box, and the air conditioning failing to blow cold air. I recommend a shop that specializes in the electronic systems of vehicles to diagnosis and make the necessary repairs. They should keep the car until they replicate the symptoms described. A new BCM from GM should cost about $230; plan on another $200 for them to diagnose the problem, replace the unit, and program the new unit. The dealers quote between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. My experience and the experiences I have read on the internet, indicate the new BCM should last only about a year.

A new BCM for an Impala should cost about $230, plan on another $200 for the diagnosis, replacment, and programming. The dealers typically want between $700 and $1,100 for this.

Wont start security light stays on

Body Control Module (BCM) on both counts. Find a shop in your town that specializes in electrical systems to test it. Beware, these can be intermittent problems, so make sure they keep it until the car does what you have observed. Expect to spend about $450 for the replacment. Dealers quoted me between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. By the way, a new BCM will probably only last you about 12 months.

MY 2002 CHEVY IMPALA 3.4 DRIVE FOR A WHILE THEN SHUTS OFF

Sounds like an altinator problem. Have it checked out. If your altinator is bad it will not recharge your battery while its running and cause your car to lose all electrical power. When this happens, your car will not usually run for more than 10minutes or so.

dash lights are bulbs,soldered into the printed circut board.
Can't be replaced. I wired an led light into the dash light circut
at the plug in at the cluster.

Is located on the left hand side of the steering column.... it should be the same in the 01 since the parts can be swapped in both cars. Changing the box is real easy. It is above the drivers side kick panel. It is a black box with a few sets of cables attached to it which unplug. BE AWARE: the box may be easy to replace but the information stored on the old box has to be transfered to the new one. Usually the only people capable of doing that is a Chevy dealer. Once the new box is programed it can't be changed so unfortunately if replacing the box doesn't solve your problem you bought a box for nothing.
