Question about Goodman GDS80904BNA Open Flame Heater

Goodman GDS80904BNA w/ HAI Omnistat model 80

The stat will click on indicating the furnace is on, when I go out to check the furnace the blower is all that is on. I can override it through the stat and get the burners to ignite but after about 5 to 10 minutes the furnace will turn off and the blower will remain on. The stat is set to 71 and the highest I can get the temp without overriding through the stat is 65. Usually wake up every morning with temp @64 or62. Like I said , burners will ignite, blower is working....is it the stat?

I don't think so. But you can test by jumping the stat wires and see what happens. What you really need to do is get in front of the furnace and jump it out at the furnace. Follow the sequence of operation and see where it is failing. Follow this sequence:
On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the ignitor. The ignitor will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the ignitor gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the ignitor does not energize (bad control, bad ignitor), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not lite (dirty pilot), the burner does not lite (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Most newer furnaces will have a diagnostic center or control built into the control module. You may be able to view it as it is running thru a small viewing port. Some models will require the removal of an access panel prior to finding it. On the reverse of the access panel, there will be a diagnostic chart that will aide you in understanding any error code recorded (usually a blinking light).

This sounds like a pressure switch problem, alot of the time condensation gets into them and cause the problems you are describing...if you can take them off and shake upside down untill water is out of them...also check to see if anything is biocking intake or exhast

Need your model # to check the codes but, this coming back on after turning the t-stat off is rare. You may have been in a lockout and the furnace re-started. Some furnaces try to start three times , then lock out. Time out, then re-start. The codes should be on your furnace blower door. Write back with this info and i could help.

I HAVE A USED GOODMAN GMS8 FURNACE I HAD INSTALL IN MY HOUSE WITH AIR THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING IS THE BLOWER RUNS ALL THE TIME KNOW WHAT ???? HELP ME PLEASE

Check your themostat. The fan switch may be in the on position and not in the auto. If that is not the problem, try turning the power off to the furnace, wait 1 minute and turn the power on. It may have went into a lock-out which causes the blower to run.

Goodman furnace

double check your wiring. R terminal on the furnace will provide 24 volts to the t-stat. W terminal in the t-stat will send 24 volts back to the furnace W terminal to turn on the heat. G terminal in the t-stat will send power to the G terminal in the furnace when the t-stat is switched to fan on. Y terminal in the t-stat will send power to the Y terminal in the furnace which in turn will send 24 volts to the A/C outside. The C terminal in the furnace should be connected to the c terminal in the A/C outside as well as to the T-stat. Check the fuse again

GDS80904BNA Goodman furnace only cylces off for a minute

Sounds like your repair man ripped you off. He should have stood behind his work.
1. I would try to clean the flame sensor located just below the burners. It is connected to "one" wire (Not the two wire) clean rod with sandpaper.
2. The old and thermostat could have a had a bad heat anticipator. if the new t/stat is not digital the heat anticpator on the T/stat needs to be adjusted. slide the small adjuster arm under the cover to about .6 or .7 and see if the solves the problem. if the t/stat is digital it should be preset from the factory.
3. last resort have a service man check your pressure swith. could be a slow inducer motor, blocked or bad vacum line, or a restricted drain or flue pipe.
Good luck!

If this is a split system, look on the side of the furnace, no luck? remove the front panel. look for a little plate or sticker label inside there somewhere. If you are in California, there is a Goodman (A.K.A.) Janitrol, in Ontario CA. They may be able to help. (sorry don't remember phone #)
