Question about Brother IntelliFAX 4750 Plain Paper Laser Fax
THe scanner portion has a defect, so this unit is being used as a printer. When trying to print to the lower tray (2) which has legal paper, it will not select that tray even with settings on "auto". When you try to specify the lower tray manually, you get the following message:
There are one or more conflicting settings.
One of the conflicting settings is:
Paper Source:Lower Paper Tray
Lower Paper Tray:Off
Resolve conflicts automatically for me (radio button at start of line)
I will resolve the conflict myself (radio button at start of this line)
However, no combination of re-setting the settings on the machine or changing via the driver force it to go to tray 2. Emptying tray 1 of paper will force it to use tray 2. I can't get it to work any other way.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: paper jam inside
You may also have a problem with the paper feed (clutch, dirty feed/pick up tires) section, or even a dirty sensor as Jay mentioned. A sensor in modern office equipment is generally a photo sensor, which means it shoots light from one side to be detected on the other side of it. If it's dirty, it will give you a flase reading. Try cleaning the tires that pick up the paer from the tray (don't force them down if they won't rotate easily) with mild soap and water on a rag, and also try fresh paper. Sometimes if paper has been sitting for a while, or in damp conditions, it will pick up moisture and give you paper feed problems... which is what it sounds like you are having. Sounds like the paper may need even be making it to the sensor in the 1st place if it on comes out of the tray 1/2 an inch. Good luck

Usually, fax machines don't have caller ID capability.. If the sender's fax number appears on the faxes you receive, it's just that they have programmed it into their fax machine as a header.
