Ive got the same issue with mine and ive read about 100 people with the same issues or near identical issues ive replaced the directional flasher relay. ign switch, run separate grounds thinking it was a bad ground replaced the light sockets and put new long life bulbs into them. replaced fuses even though they were all good. only thing left is to run a completely new wiring harness and the car simply is not worth the aggrivation. my advice never buy another chevy/government motors product ever again until they can get their act together and build em like they used to in a fashion which enables pretty much anybody to easily repair them with common tools. total morons for engineering a wiring system in such an irresponsible fashion its no wonder all of their buisness is being taken by foreigners.

the switch or due to weather the wires might be damaged, but it's a short...you might want to check into getting it to stop stayin on as the brake light lights up with others in a sequence for diagnostic codes and troubleshooting engine problems.....good luck..shia

SOURCE: 96 Chevy Cavalier brake pedal to the floor

First check your brake fluid.
Either you have a failing brake booster, or you have developed a leak in one of your brake lines. If your brake line is leaking, it should be pretty evident, i.e. oily looking substance sprayed underneath the vehicle or in the wheel wells, if the booster is leaking (the large black/silver almost bowl shaped thing directly in front of the driver under the hood against the back wall) there will most likely be fluid dripping down the firewall below it, if your brake fluid is extremely low/empty, you probably have a leak, that could be at the booster or on a line, or even at the caliper/drum. If it is empty (which can make your ABS light, light up) then you have yourself a leak. Also, if the fluid is really low, you could try adding some, although you will have air in the lines if it was low enough to floor the brake, but you might be able to find the leak if you refill the fluid and cause it to spray from the leak again. Have someone watch under the vehicle while you do this.

2002 chevy cavalier wont shift out of park unless I pull the bcm fuse

The shifter release solenoid is activated by the brake light switch. Check to see if the brake lights are working when you press the brake pedal. If not, that may be the reason why the shifter won't come out of park. You may need to replace or adjust the brake light switch. (It's located at the top of the brake pedal arm).

I have a 1991 firebird brake lights stay on after i turn off enginei can manual lift brake pedal and they stay off but i have to prop a stick under pedal so it stay off. please help its driving me...

If the brake lights are staying on when you shut the car off, they are staying on when you are driving too. The easiest way to repair this would be to attach a spring to the brake pedal and run it up to one of the steel braces under the dash. It needs to be heavy enough to pull the pedal back but not so heavy as to make braking difficult. Initially you could probably use a bungee cord to sort out how heavy a spring you would need but I wouldn't trust the cord too long. They can stretch and break without warning. You will likely have to drill a hole in the brake pedal arm to attach the spring. Hope this helps.

I ran a car this way for a couple years without any trouble but I don't remember where I got the spring. The wire for the spring was about 1mm thick and the coil was big enough to slide a pencil into it. Hope this helps.

Every time i turn off my 98 Jeep Cherokee, the brake lights stay on until i step on the brake. Then they turn off. Is this normal or is something not right?

It is not normal. I would say your break switch is sticking. There is a button on the end that sometimes gets stuck. It turns your brake lights on and off.

Brake lights will not turn off on my 94 Nissan Altima

Your problem should be that the rubber stops that are mounted at the top of your break pedal came out or are worn down too much to press the buttons all the way in.
What they do is push the button that switches off your break lights when the break pedal is released (yes, kind of backwards way to design it, i know). That's why your lights stay on even when your car is off. I had to go to the junkyard to find replacements for mine and they are a ***** to replace.
They are chipped away easily by the break switches when your car shakes badly over a prolonged period of time. Like driving a couple of weeks on a bad front tire.

Tail lghts/brake lights

Isn't that mysterious? It took me a few weeks to figure it out. Look carefully under the break pedal. There is this device called a "break light switch". I hope that helps.
