I have had a Magellan Roadmate 700 for 6 years now and I love it. The problem, now, is that it tends to 'freeze' or lock up on the map screen in the middle of a trip. I usually have to unplug the power and restart and sometimes it will do it again after I'm into the trip a few miles. Is there a solution or something I can have checked. I can't believe how much cheaper they are now - I paid $1000 6 years ago! Please advise ........ thanks!

Re: Magellan Roadmate 700 freezes up
Try resetting user data. At user menu, press "-" zoom out and repeat button at same time. select reset user data, it will reboot automatically, then check to see if it is any better. If not, hopefully the software came with your unit and you can re-install it.
Good luck and let me know if you need help with the installation.

I think Magellan makes it so if you don't update your map every year it will freeze up. Mine does the same thing and they told me to buy an update for $99 last year so I did and it worked and then after it started telling me my map was over a year old this year it started freezing up again. I don't want to pay $99 every year to keep this thing working. I wonder if Garman or Tomtom does the same thing.
Same problems, you have to update as far as I know and you have to update every year otherwise it will start to freeze up. It's a rip off because it's $99 a year. Does anyone know if the other GPS companies do this?
i use to own a 700, i advise you to get the new magellan mastreo 4000 or higher,i did my research and the magellan700 roadmate is no longer being serviced.that is what the magellan website has had showed and someone on here also has said it and they start to have alot of problems.i own now a mastreo 4000 so far so good no problems.
do not bother i had a 700 roadmate they start having lots of problems like fozen screens to losing satilite signals ,get the magellan mastreo 4000 or the roadmate 800 both are portable and has rechargable internal battery,800 you can buy extra batterys, the 4000 has no extra batterys to buy, they both have windows core 5.0 and i have both of them the are real good with no problems.belive me .
Hussam.. I believe the newest software upgrade you can get for the 700 is version 4.32 which is the same version used on the 760's. The maps are stored on the hard drive, so I do not think a reset will help but here is how it's done.
1. At the user select menu (first screen to appear after initial turn on) hold down the zoom out key (-) and the repeat button (on top of your unit).
2. Once at the "secret" menu, select reset user data. This will reset all of your personal information from the unit. All of your POI's will be deleted as well as your user name (which you can re-create of course)
3. Your unit will re-boot automatically and that's how you reset your unit.
Like I said though, I do not think this will revive your maps. If you have the maps on a DVD-CD then you can reload them that way, otherwise send it to the Fort Worth, Tx repair center and they have the proper program to load data directly to the hard drive.
The cable that connects your hard drive to your main board could be loose. If it's not loose, then it's your hard drive. The only thing you can do (if it's not the cable) is send it in for a new hard drive. Unsure what the costs will be but the magellan logo screen is produced from memory on the main board while anything after that is when the hard drive takes over.
