I want to connect my all-in-one 3100 to my new HP vista computer. I do not have the original installation disc. Can you help?

There isn't any way to build a new recovery partition on a new empty hard drive. The recovery partition is put on when the drive is imaged at the manufacturer, but you don't have any source to copy from. If you don't have a recovery disc set, you have two options. The first option is to see if HP sells a recovery disc for your computer. It's unlikely, and expensive if they do have them available.

The second option is to do a fresh installation of Windows yourself. This is a little more work, but it's not difficult. You'll need a copy of Windows, the same version that came installed on the computer. (For a Vista machine, you just need the "Anytime Upgrade" DVD, which has all the Vista versions on it.) You'll also need to download any hardware drivers needed from HP's website. The installation is mostly automatic; you just need to enter the product key at some point, and you'll find that on the Windows sticker on the computer case. After Windows is done installing, install the hardware drivers and activate Windows. (When the recovery partition or a restore disc is used, the activation is automatic.)

i think the problem is on that software.pls check the software cd or DVd. if it is fully compatible with windows vista.

HP doesn't have a Vista driver for Scanjet 3400c. I'm afraid your scanjet isn't compatible with Vista.

Uninstall any software you had previously installed. Reboot your computer.

Determine whether you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit computer. To verify which one, see this website from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218

Once that is determined go to this page: HP 3915 OS Select

Choose the correct operating system Vista or Vista (64 bit)

Download the correct driver to your computer. There is an instruction link there if you need help.

Install the new software and driver. The original setup guide said to connect the usb cable before installing the software. I will assume that to be true here also.

The Installation CD that came with your product works for Windows98, WindowsME, Windows2000, WindowsXP only.

Your PC has VISTA loaded (according to the HP web specs)

This printer has no specific driver for VISTA but basic functionality is supported by VISTA without the need to load a seperate driver.

The printer connects via a USB cable to the PC and should be detected automatically by VISTA whe the printer is turned on.

The original CD would have drivers for an earlier vesrion of windows (98 or XP) so you should uninstall any programs that were installed offthe disk.
