Question about Hotpoint NWXR473EV Dryer
We have been using the above dryer for about two years, it is set up so that the water produced flows along the pipe straight into the drain that the washer drains into, when the dryer operates we used to see a flow of water in the pipe flowing to the drain. We have never used the internal water tank to catch the water so it is therefore dry.
Recently the "empty water" light has come on and stayed on, the tank is still bone dry, but we do not seem to see a flow in the pipe to the drain.
The dryer seems to run okay and is hot - we have cleaned the condenser which you remove from the bottom left hand side of front.
Why is light on, where is the water going, we dare not use dryer in case water ends up all over the floor... any ideas ...... Thankyou.

If yuo are referring to the catch on the door, then undo all the scews holding the 2 halves of the door together, and prize apart, fit new door catch.
If you mean the door lock, then you will have to remove the top cover and right hand side panel to access the door lock.
Hope this helps.

has the belt shredded and wrapped itself around the shaft? try to manually rotate the drum to see if the belt is free and the motor shaft moves. it sounds like the motor is stuck and the smell is the uncirculated heat at the back. let me know your results.
taking the lid off will gain access.

I am not familiar with this particular unit, but I have a condensing dryer (Malber) which pumps out the water by itself. I am guessing that your unit requires you to empty a bin manually. Even if the bin is empty, I think the unit thinks it needs to be emptied and that is why the dryer will not work to give you hot air. If you do have such a bin, it might have a weight switch which the unit uses to detect if the bin needs emptying. See if the weight switch is working. The same weight switch idea is used on dehumidifiers.

Sounds like the drive belt has gone, and the noise you can hear is the motor going round.
The red glow you can see, will be the heater element glowing..
To check the belt, remove top cover, and you will be able to see if the belt is on or not, if you can see it round the drum, try to lift it up, if it has not broken, then you will not be able to remove it, and that means the motor or drum could be siezed, try to turn the drum by hand, it should be fairly stiff to turn, but not that stiff that you cannot turn it at all.
