Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

I need help. I have Fujifilm xd-Picture card M1 GB for my Olympus stylus camera. I have pictures stored in them already and when I tried to download the pictures, it took a very long time to read the card and still it wasn't recognize. And then I tried putting the card back to my camera and it gave a me a card error. It says I have to clean the contact area of the card with dry cloth which I did several times and still giving me the same message (clean the card....). Please help...I am very desperate.

Sounds as if somehow the memory card is corrupted. In order to retrieve the images you would need to run some type of image recovery software. You can try a program called zero assumption recovery which will allow you to try and retrieve the images.

Then try to format the card after the images are recovered. If still gives card error the card is damaged and needs to be replaced.

How can I increase the total number of pictures to

Purchase at least one xD-Picture card up to 2GB in size. Or you can use microSD and microSDHC cards using the supplied adapter.

The number of pictures you can store depends on the size of the card, image resolution, and other factors. Obviously, with more cards you can take more pictures.

Olympus XD card is asking to be formatted, but is already has pictures in it (we can see the pictures in a digital picture frame, but not in the computer).

If these are pictures you want to save, you can take the card to a store that has a Kodak kiosk (like Walmart). Insert your card and print the pictures or you can even make a cd of them. Once they're downloaded, format the card in the camera.

Panorama Feature on Olympus Stylus 840

Forget the in-pano function and use a free stitching program off the internet. When shooting panoramas, you need to be in aperature priority or manual mode so as to keep the exposure consistant, especially going into the sun or away from it in your pictures. Although this is good practice, it is not needed for a few stitch programs as they average out all the exposures and make the entire pic uniform. This works pretty good in all but the most demanding exposure swings.

How to activate panorama?

Panorama shooting lets you create a panoramic picture, using the OLYMPUS
Master software from the provided CD-ROM. An Olympus xD-Picture Card is required for Panorama shooting. If the card is a Fuji xD card then the panorama feature would be disabled to you.

XD memory card confusion

The xD-Picture Card (xD stands for "extreme digital.") is a flash memory card format developed and introduced to the market in July 2002 by Olympus and Fujifilm, and manufactured by the Toshiba Corporation. xD cards are in Olympus and Fujifilm digital cameras, and are available in a range of sizes, from 16 MB to 2 GB currently. A higher-performance xD card known as Type M came out in 2005, and uses Multi Level Cell (MLC) architecture.
An xD card is 20mm x 25mm x 1.78mm and weighs about 2.8 g, making it significantly smaller than the nearly matchbook-sized CF card and about half the size of the SD/MMC card. As far as size goes, it is much closer to miniSD or RS-MMC. The manufacturer listed write speeds for xD-Picture Cards are: for the 16 MB and 32 MB card, 1.3 MB/s and for the 64MB and higher cards, 3 MB/s. Both offer a minimum read speed of 5 MB/s. The xD Type M cards have a faster standard rate of 4.0MB/s for reading and 2.5MB/s for writing.
Anything up to 2gb will work with your camera, either the type M or the type M+ will be fine.

Xd card type

A Fuji card can be used in the camera; the only function that will be disabled is if you wish to take panorama shots with the camera. Panorama in the Olympus cameras is proprietary therefore in order to shoot panorama shots Olympus requires that you specifically use their xD picture card. Otherwise the Fuji card will work just fine.
