Samsung dlp hln617w aging pattern problem

Recently my Samsung DLP HLN617W started giving me problems after my 5 year extended warranty ran out. First problem started with the set powering itself off. After poking around on some forums learned that that if you unplug the set it will sometimes reset it. That appears to work for now. The next interesting problem is the entire screen has a red tint. Again I start searching for forums to address this problem. A few suggest geting into the maintenance mode on the set. Here is the sequence to do this press "mute 182 power". Now once you get into the maintenance mode be CAREFUL. Before you make any changes make sure you write down the current settings. Unless you are skilled or trained in working on these monsters I suggest that you be extremely careful. I checked the color tablet to make sure the color wheel was functioning correctly. The red, blue and green look o.k. Black and white the same. A few patterns appeared and looked ok. I went back and reset any functions that could be reset. THis cleared the red tint problem. No I have the new problem of the aging pattern not going away. Apparently this happens when replacing the bulb. So how can this be resolved.

I am actually having the same problem. I just reciently installed a new bulb and messing around in the service menus, and ended up with the same problem. I found that if if in the same menu the aging pattern was in, I think it was the last menu, and click on the EW RESET, let the TV reset and that should fix your problem.

Samsung hln617w dlp tv won't turn on. Red temp

Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.

In this case it seems you may have an issue with your ballast. Either it's going out or barely starting. I recommend you replace it

Is there a way to do a master reset or reset to defaults for a Samsung DLP Hln617W? The colors are messed up after another family member decided to try to tune it and I'd like to find a factory default...

Usually in your menu under picture controls at the bottom, should be a reset option. Most all sets do, especially Samsung. Let me know if you can't find it?

SAMSUNG 61" DLP, HL S6187WX keeps shutting off

Make sure there is plenty of air flow around DLP, If nothing is restricting the air flow then the fan may have a problem.
Dont use your DLP until the problem is diagnosed by a tech. Not only will you shorten the lamp life you can do unrepairable damage to the TV.
Call Samsung to see if the TV is still under warranty.
