Question about Samsung SYNC SGH-A707 Cellular Phone

1 Answer

Phone recieving unsupported image files.

No matter who sends me a message I get that the picture is in JPGG format, and is unsupported.

I used to be able to recieve picture messages, but now I can't.
I've searched the web, and realized it's a common problem with my phone type.

Any suggestions?

Same problem, used to be able to receive pics, but not "unsupported file type Jpgg". I have heard it may be a problem receiving pics from Verizon users. I have received a few lately from other ATT users , but nothing from Verizon people.

So you're right it is really a common problem with this phone. Well actually it's with this phone on an ATT network when you're receiving a pic message from someone on a different network, such as verison. As far as I know there is no way to "fix" this but there are a few ways to work around it.

If you're sent a file that you really want to see you can either email the file from your phone to your email and then download it to your computer or send it from your phone to your computer using bluetooth if your computer has it. (be sure to remember that often you have to highlight the file you want then change it's options to be bluetooth recognized so that your computer can see it)

Then change the file extension to .jpg and VIOLA!

Here is another work around gleened from the ATT forums that I found worked as well- Hope these help!
""So here is the fix - it worked for me. My phone (and yours) has a email style address. The format is : phonenumber@mms.att.net (1234567890@mms.att.net) Have your friends that use other networks create an additional contact in their phones for you using this identity. They will be able to craft a text as usual, attach multi media or photos and send to that address. Your phone should be able to translate/diplay the media. It worked for me. If you dont know the address of your phone I'd be willing to bet that someone at ATT customer care can find it for you.""

I can view some pictures but for others I get unsupported media format. All pictures are Jpeg. why some can be viewed but not all?

The JPEG's that won't display are probably too high a resolution or the file size of the image may be too high. If you are using sandisk Sansa for instance you can use the Sansa Media Converter to change (lower) the resolution of the images, or you can use other software to alter the images.

When recievin photo message will not display and states unsupported content

Hi
as your phone only has a standard VGA camera, it is possible that the pictures your being sent are too large for your phone to display. Can you send MMS? (picture messages) Try taking a photo on your phone and then send it to your own mobile number. This will test that your phone is ok and the problem is related to the actual message your being sent, i.e. file too large. ( in UK max file size is 200kb I believe)
If thats all ok ask the person who is sending you photos to maybe take a photo using less mega pixel setting on their phone, lets say 640x480 resolution (VGA like your phone) and see if you can receive that from them? I have come accross this before on some lower spec Samsungs. Hope that helps?

My brother has had a similar problem with getting pictures on his LG Shine when sent from an Alltel customer. .jpgg is not going to be recognized by your phone is needs to be .jpg or .jpeg it most likely means the sender needs to change the format the images are stored in on their Altel phone before they send them.

You cant fix it. ATT knows its a problem but are not doing anything about it. All thats needed is for them to make sure the file has a JPG extension and not JPGG. I spent about 1.5 hours on the phone with them about it and all they are willing to do is take off half of your messaging bill (about $10).

Basicly the only real fix is to switch to verizon or sprint

I had the same problem, i searched and searched and finally found an answer that i was sketchy to try, but works perfectly. Go into your setting, connections, GPRS, and DELETE, yes, DELETE the AT&T option. Do a soft reset and your good to go, i've had no more problems
