Question about Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

I have a Monitor 2400 oil heater. I would like a more detailed description of all the parts for this heater. Also I would like to find a listing of the possible error (e) codes that this heater may display and the solutions. Presently I have a display of e 13.

Monitor 2400 quit running, displayed e14. I thought I was out of fuel so I had the tank filled. Tank was not empty, had about half a tank left. Shut off and restarted the unit several times, primeing each time. Unit ran for an hour or 2 then shut off showing e14. Tried the same thing again and the unit would try to run for less than a minute then display e13. This is only the second season for this unit to be used. Thanks for any help you can give.

    mechaniac -

Can you explain further. I am using the same piping that I purchased with my monitor for exahst and intake. The change is instead of going directly through a wall I am using a window kit with an extension kit, only one elbow at the unit and an elbow at the window. The size of the air intake pipe is only diminished by the minimal size of one pipe fitting into the other.

(Your combustion air may be low, due to a wrong sized oifice in the air intake pipe.)

How do you determine this? where is the combustion ring or burner cloth?

(your flame pattern may be distorted due to damaged combustion ring or burner cloth. Both can cause sooting up problems.)

Where is the flame rod and how do you remove it?

(The flame rod has to be removed and cleaned, which is pretty simple.)

    Thanks for your help!

I cleaned the fuel screen located on the unit and replaced the filter on the external fuel tank. The external filter can freeze if it accumulates enough water and the temp is cold enough, or it can just get full of debris. I also unplugged the 2400 for 30 min to let the factory preset settings come back. Filter(s) caused the e14 error, preset settings cured the e13 error caused by me fooling with the start stop function so much. Thanks for the help!

I've been researching the same problems with my 2400. Your combustion air may be low, due to a wrong sized oifice in the air intake pipe. Or, your flame pattern may be distorted due to damaged combustion ring or burner cloth. Both can cause sooting up problems. The flame rod has to be removed and cleaned, which is pretty simple. Running the heater on high a couiple of times a week may help keep it clean, I am told. I set my timers to run the heater on high for 30 minutes a couple of times a week. So far, so good.

You need to get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle. It will show you all of these things and how to properly do the jobs as well as when to do the changes.

We have a monitor 2400 kerosene heater, it will start up and after a few minutes at most it shuts down and starts beeping and many times has a message "error 13"

Next time you try to start the unit listen to the pump on the lower right side of the unit. Just before the E13 message if you hear a thumping noise, you have a fuel problem. If you don't hear a thumping and there is a flame you have a problem with the inside of the burner. I would say since it's a 2400 you have a fuel problem. Low fuel, no fuel, dirty filter or blocked flue pipe.

Defective plug Honeywell HZ 680C

*All Heaters*-Where can I get parts for my heater? Answer: Unfortunately, we do not have any replacement parts available online for heaters. You can obtain parts by calling consumer relations at 800-332-1110. The only parts currently available are replacement wheels for oil filled heaters. If you are looking for any other parts, please call us or send an email to and let us know the model number of the heater, the length of time you have owned it for, and a detailed description of what is wrong with it.   Question: All Heaters-Can I use an extension cord with my heater? Answer: You should avoid the use of an extension cord as it may overheat. However, if you have to use an extension cord , be sure it is a polarized cord of 14 AWG minimum and rated no less than 1875 watts.

I could find no recall on you product. They do not supply parts. I am sure you can match up the plug and cord at any good hardware or appliance parts store. Are you sure it is the cord?  The element could be shorted out.
DO you have an ohm, meter or small batter light tester to tes t the cord and eliments with?
