Question about Singer 5050 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I have a Singer 5050. I got material jammed and once I got it out the bobbin thread will not catch on the sewing thread. I'm wondering what I could have broken. I love that machine and would like to get it reapired instead of buying a new one. Help!!

I have a singer 5050 how much tension do I need for sewing as the thread keeps breaking when sewing

Top tension about 4 or 5, use a good mercerised thread only, make sure you do not have the bobbin tesnion too tight, slacken the screw anti clockwise on the bobbin case if it is

Singer 5430C bobbins thread always loopy

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Thread jamming on the bottom of fabric

The tension must have gotten loose during use, try adjust the tension on the thread, and the bobbin casing.

Bobbin thread will not catch

This is really one for an engineer. It involves loosening the bobbin race and moving it slightly till the hook catches the thread, and then retightening. Can be an awkward job requiring 3 hands, even for an expert!

Thread jamming at bobbin

Check to be sure the thread is not catching on the bottom of the bobbin. If it is, replace the bobbin because it is sprung. If it is not catching there, then you need to check your tension to see that it is working properly. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";}. Pull the thread through the tension assemblyand test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 orsomething in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through thetension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. Itshould pull noticeably harder.) If it doesn't do this, you need to remove the thread or lint that is stuck between the tension discs. Open them with a small screwdriver and clean them out.
If this doesn't solve your problem, remove the bobbin case and check the hook for rough spots.. If you find some, buff with an emery stick until smooth.
