Question about Gateway PC Laptops

Warranty from Officemax

We were told at checkout that buying the 2 year warranty on a new laptop would get us 3. But we cannot find confirmation of that anywhere.

Not really the truth from them as you only have 2 years with officemax and 1 year with the manufacturer for a total of 3 years

officemax doesnt carry your warranty for the full 3 years only 2

Laptop issues


Mine did this to me for awhile and eventually went completely black. (I had a pc) When I had it checked out they told me that my hard drive crashed and that it would cost more to fix it then my computer was worth (and my computer was only about a year old). Hopefully, it\'s not the same for you because it\'s such a pain to buy a new computer especially when you have lost all you info! However, if you have a mac and it\'s less than a year old it\'ll be covered by the warranty- after a year if you decided not to purchase the warranty then it\'s also going to be a better investment to buy a new mac. Good luck~

My laptop is around a year old and it has started flashing pink wavy lines.It usually ocours when the screen is stationary and the laptop is getting hot, please dont say its the graphics card thanx


try to check the flexible cable on the motherboard to the lcd, and then checks if the heat on the chipset vga, vga chipset confirmed its

Hi guys we have made the mistake in buying 3 laptops brand new from you guys first one replaced under warranty less than a year old a lot of money to replace the software 2 one fixed under warranty 8...


So, what is your question?

There is nobody on FIXYA that "officially" speaks for either HP or their COMPAQ subsidiary.

Buy the "three-year-extended-warranty" from HP before the "standard" warranty expires.

Review your "backup" strategy, to eliminate/minimize any "data" loss that you might experience when each laptop fails.

I bought a Toshiba laptop on Fri, 11 march it was only this afternoon i thought about regestering it but was told the reg period had runout what do I do ?


Whoever told you that was pulling your leg. In our company we still register machines that have been omitted from registration 2 years after the purchase date. Machines have at least 3 years guarantee from date of sale and maybe a year's warranty with the place you purchased it from. Have you contacted Toshiba directly?

I WANT TO KNOW THE ACTUAL PRICE RATE FOR TWO YEARS WATENTY.(WARENTY EXTENTION)


That would depend on who you are taking out the warranty with. They are the only ones who will be able to advise. Be advised your new equipment will/should come with a warranty anyway. If it is one year then your 2 year extended warranty would only cover you for a further year as it would be from the date it was taken out.

My personal view is any equipment only expected to last 2 years is not worth buying and extended warranties are a waste of money. Merely my opinion though.

Dell inspiron 1525 battery quit charging when warranty quit. Bought new charger, didn't help. Told motherboard needs replacement? This seems fishy to me. What kind of laptop works longer than the...


It is possible the battery itself has wore out. They have a limited amount of time they can be recharged. Does the unit run while the charger is plugged in??

My power cable not chargen my laptop why


There are several reasons why this is happening.

1. Obviously, the power adapter is not working. Try it on another laptop or use another power adapter that matches identcially to the one you are using.

2. The power port/jack inside the laptop is damage and will need to be replaced. If it is still under warranty, HP should be able to do this for you, if it is not under warranty, then you will need to go on ebay or another site and get a new power jack. They run from $15-35 depending on who you buy from. Be sure to buy from someone with a good feedback rating.

3. The motherboard is fried. I hope this is not the problem, but it is a possibilty. Again, if under warranty, contact HP, see if they can take care of it. If not, then you will need to do it. They are doing a service enhancement. Go to this link and look it over:

If that looks like the problem you are having, then they might repair it for free if it is out of warranty(this extends the warranty in certain situations to 3 years).

Wal-mart's computer care is a scam.


I work for the Wal-Mart PC Care program. The PC Care program is free, it provides assistance in installing a year worth of virus protection. Anything beyond that is on a pay for fee service. It does not replace the original Dell warranty (which as pointed out) you were under. The little card board disk hold clearly states that you should save your receipt here. The receipt can be generated again at the local store. A customer can also purchase an extended service that comes info effect after the original warranty expires. It is not a bad plan, but it does pay to read and know what the plan covers. You still need to contact Dell as you are under their warranty. Pre-existing conditions are not covered by any extended service plan.

Laptop Gateway mx8711


Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.
