Question about Apple 15" PowerBook G4 Aluminum 1.67 GHz LCD Display (p/n 1002587) (661-3749 1002587) Mac Notebook

Colors on Mac G4 Powerbook display are severely distorted

I have a Mac G4 powerbook and all of a sudden the display is not in color but instead looks like images off the negatives of 35mm film. Everything is in black and white, but distorted/opposite as if it were a film negative. I tried restarting the computer several times and when I do the desktop is in the right colors for about a second before it reverts back to the distortion. Help!

I actually found a solution to my problem elsewhere online. I thought I'd post it here in case anyone was wondering.

I had a look on the Apple support site - apparently this is a built-in feature of OSX, part of Universal Access, I presume to help with the visually-impaired (supposedly, negative images can be easier to recognize!!).

The keystroke to get it back is: Control-Option-Command, then press 8 to toggle between the settings.

Hi
Goto Apple>SystemPreferences>

in the System section choose UniveralAccess>Seeing and make sure it says Black on White is selected, that Use Grayscale is unchecked and contrast is set to Normal.

If it's not that then its your display and needs a service.

All the best

My other computer, G4 Macbook Pro, has a screen issue. When it is turned on and in process of coming up, the screen shows large sections of odd colors such as light pink or light green or light blue. Then...

Connect an external display to the computer. If the lines and distortion shows up on the external display its the video card, which is attached to the logic board. So, the whole logic board will need to be replaced.
If the lines and distortion don't show up on the external display the issue is the LCD module, which will need to be replaced.

The wether does have something to do with it. After a lightning storm humidity is a problem. the humidity and heat can make the screen lighter, kind of grey. After the wether clears up it will take an hour to regain full color. Also it could be if it was charging while the storm happened it could have blown a fuse and messed up you screen colors
Also try to gain color by

When typing it writes number 9 all the time

How often? Can you make it happen on demand?
Acquire any other USB keyboard, and plug it into a USB port on your PowerBook. Use this keyboard for a while. If you don't see the problem, then I suspect some sort of short in your keyboard cable, or perhaps a spill in the keyboard itself.
PowerBook G4 keyboards are very easily replaced, without opening up the laptop itself.

Hi Ryclick,

Boot the machine from the external OS(another machine in target disc mode) check for the issue, if issue does not persists re-install the OS.
If nothing work you may have to try reseating the LVDS cable of the display. This could be an issue with the faulty LVDS cable or the internal display it self.
