The Compaq Presario CQ62 is part of a series of Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC's. The actual Product Number is on the bottom of the laptop, in a white Service Tag. (P/N = Product Number)
Stated this because I am going to give you a link to a free Service Manual for the Compaq Presario CQ60 series of Notebook PC's.
Removing the LCD screen from the Display Assembly is the same for all of the CQ60 series.http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-compaqhp
On this page go down to the 6th line. The one that starts with > Compaq Presario 1100.
Go across and left-click on > CQ60
This is a PDF file. the computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
(I would recommend upgrading to the newest version, Adobe Reader 9, if the computer you are on does not have it)
After you click on CQ60 you may not see anything happening for up to 30 seconds.
After you see the first page, it may take additional time for the file to fully download.
Suggest you let the file download all the way before looking through it.
You are not permanently downloading the file. If you wish to save a copy to your computer, and do not know how, state in a Comment.
(This way you can burn it to CD for safekeeping, and won't have to download again.
You can also delete it from your computer, and save harddrive space)
If you are aware of the following disregard;
At the top of the PDF file is the page number box. It is to the Right of the blue Down Arrow.
Removing the Display Assembly is on Page 62.
Fast way to get to that page.
Put your mouse cursor in the page number box.
Press the Enter key.
A) Remove ALL power to the laptop. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery
B) Observe Anti-Static Precautions
C) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Mark each compartment for the area the screws come out of.
DO NOT mix them up.
In case your LCD screen is not physically damaged
An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.
A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (Bulb)
Similar to the fluorescent lighting used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.
(Approximately 3 to 5 inches long, and half the diameter of a No.2 pencil)
An Inverter is used to provide power to the LCD screen, and the Backlight.
It has to reduce the power from the laptop for the Backlight.
It has to increase the power from the laptop for the LCD screen.
90 percent of the time the fault is the Inverter.
A small circuit board located behind the Bezel, and usually at the bottom of the LCD screen.
This is an example of an Inverter for a Compaq Presario CQ60 series of Notebook PC's.
It is NOT THE Inverter you will need.
Base it on the entire Product Number, the size of the LCD screen, and the finish of the LCD screen.
(Glossy or Matte)
Also match the Inverter to the part number on the back of the LCD screen.
(Same thing for the LCD screen. MATCH the part number so you will get the correct one)http://www.excelcomputerinc.com/partpicture_EX.asp?ref=61&category=partstable
