Question about Magellan Maestro 4040 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I have a Magellan Maestro 4040. It is about 3 years old.

It now will not hold a charge, and will flicker and go back to the main screen when your traveling. I have to re-set it.

Do you guys do a tune up, repair, and how much and how long do I have to go without it.

Or can I trade this one in on a comparable used one?

I have one that I purchased August 2007 and was using it to get to my destination. It kept cutting off even with the charger. After getting directions over the phone to my destination I went to radio shack. They diagnosed it as a dead battery and since it is proprietary I have to send it back to the company to have the battery replaced. Since I was out of state in unknown territory and have come to rely on it, I purchased anothered another last night and I am having a problem. I put my next destination in. It routed part of the trip and the hour glass came on and I cannot get rid of it even with exclusions. My orginal worked wonders until the battery died. The one I purchased last night is so frustrating I am seriously returning it back to where I purchased it.

Magellan has to change the batteries But they will probably just sell you a refurbished unit.
BUT if your good you can take the thing apart and try to locate a replacement battery
Three years old? I'd try to find a battery

Which unit did you get last night?

I have not used my Magellan Maestro 4040 in quite some time and I charged it today for 4 and 1/2 hours and can not get it to turn on.

Hi davidhcaldwe

the following advice pertains to the following magellan gps systems.

Magellan 800, 860, 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3050, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050 and 6000t

i fix these and many other magellan gps daily so when considering my advice , please understand i do not google my solutions.

assuming your car charger is working (the little green light is on) and your magellan still wont start up after holding the power button while its plugged in for up to ten seconds and still does not start..read below

this is actually a very common problem with these magellan power ports...they are poor quality from the factory and always and i mean always fail..the new ports that you find on ebay are 100% better then the factory port.

if your able to replace that power port yourself, you can get one HERE, if not, ask the fellow that sells them for help.

due to some dubious "experts" on fixya, im not permitted to help you directly, but please follow the link above to get further help.

let me know if you need more help or info

Have a 4040 maestro magellan will not get off the magellan screen

if this just happened, and you have not tried to update it (sometimes the update causes this) then power the 4040 on and once it finished loading to the blue screen, using a paper clip, depress the reset switch on the left side and let it restart (little pinhole on the left side under the usb port)

if you need further help, just reply to this post.

Magellan 4040 wont turn on

its probably not charging...very common problem with this and many others.

make sure green light is on the car charger and let it plugged in for awhile, then hold the power button (upto ten seconds) until it starts..if that fails

the following magellan 2000,2200t,2500,3000,3100,3140,4000,4040,4050 and the 6000 are known to have faulty dc connectors...if your magellan gps is not charging or will not power up, its most likely the dc power port...

you can get it repaired, here
or buy the port here

if you need further help, just let me know.

My maestro 4000 cuts off during normal operation

its possible the unit is running off the adapter and loses contact and shuts off. this is a common problem on these type of magellan gps. typically they need a new power port so the battery will charge up and the adapter wont lose contact.
